Dario Cologna (Switzerland) wins the 15 km free style at Seefeld. Of Marcialonga I know only that the ladies race was won by a Swede. |

Vasaloppet is 90 km! http://www.marcialonga.it/marcialonga_ski/index_en.php |

Yes, but Marcialonga goes through many villages in Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, so the track must be maintained and cured. This year there was no absence of snow, but in dry years the snow must be carried down from the mountains. |

Yes, but Marcialonga goes through many villages in Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, so the track must be maintained and cured. This year there was no absence of snow, but in dry years the snow must be carried down from the mountains. There is the same problem with Vasaloppet. Many times at Dalarna where Vasaloppet are situated in the beginning of March there is no snow at all. Then they have to use artificial snow to make the track skiable. No snowy mountains around. Some interesting contestants in this 45th Marcialonga Paolo "Il Grillo" Bettini, former champion road racing cyclist known for his energetic and never-ending attack will. He finished 212. Bjørn Dæhlie Norway, the worlds best male Cross Country skiier all time was there as well. He finished 100. Btw Il Grillo means Cricket in english. Funny because my GF's name is Sirkka, common Finnish name, that also means Cricket :) |

Bad weather at Garmisch Partenkirchen. The trial runs have been abolished and only one downhill race instead of two will start tomorrow from a lower start place. Maybe the full downhill race of ladies will start Sunday. Tullio |

Bad weather here as well. Today in Sundsvall about 500 km north of Stockholm. BTW It can be very crowded in the Alps pists so if you want a pist all to your self, Go to North Korea's Masikryong ski resort instead. The slopes at Masikryong are virtually deserted. At one point on a weekend afternoon in peak season, Swede Patrik Hultberg was the only skier on the slopes. He said: 'That's really cool. I wish I could experience it more, hitting new pistes and there's nobody there' |

I am watching the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross country on TV, 48 km with top height at Cimabanche,1548 m. I have done it with a friend who later died on a steep slope in Alpi Giulie. There was no snow in December but the grass was icy. He should have needed crampons, but we rock climbers do not have crampons in our equipment so he fell down to his death. He was the manager of the Computing Center of Trieste University with its Cray computer. I used to joke with him because my Bull/MIPS minicomputer, a RISC machine, was as fast as his Cray mainframe while costing one tenth of it. Ciao, Mario. Tullio Tord Asle Gjerdalen first and Britta Norgren Johansson first among women |

Funny. I have worked with Bull mini-computers as well. But that was in the early 90's. And of course a Norwegian computer:) Nord 100. Hi tech at the time. That was when I studied at KTH in Stockholm in the late 70's. KTH had also VAX computers and the computer hall was called The Wax Cabinet:) Memories. Ski Classics Tord Asle Gjerdalen from Norway of course. Britta Johansson Norgren Thats better. From Sweden. |

Lindsey Vonn just won her 80th career World Cup race! I just saw a clip with Lindsey Vonn meeting Ingemar Stenmark last year in Stockholm talking to each other. Among many things Ingemar asked if she was Swedish related. No, Norwegian she said, Her great-great grandmother came from Kristiansand in Norway. Well I guess it take a Norwegian to beat Stenmark's all time record:) |

I am glad they did not hurt themselves like Jacqueline Wiles yesterday. Sofia still leads the downhill cup with only one race before the end (no Olympics). Tullio |

Stacey Cook feel badly today and I wonder if she can compete in the Olympics. Lisa Hörnblad finished 18th before Lara Gut and Lin Ivarsson finished 34th. |

No SETI GPU tasks. No LHC SixTrack and Atlas tasks. No SourceFinder tasks, an astronomy program using VirtualBox. CPDN is unreachable. Only Einstein@home is feeding my computers. Tullio |

-22 C in Pyeongchang as late as a few days before the opening ceremony and the race on Saturday. If a race was decided that day it would have been canceled. In order to save on the training hours in the cold, the Norwegian Cross Country team has shipped a treadmill to South Korea. "We are very happy that we have it, the respiratory tracts are very vulnerable. I do not think this will be decisive if we take gold or not, but it's mostly psychology, "said Norways team manager Vidar Löfshus to NRK. While winter is the driest time of year for South Korea, February in particular is considered PyeongChang’s driest month. |

Pita Taufatofua walks out at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony topless despite temperatures dipping to -1 Celsius. He will represent Tonga in the cross-country skiing. |
