Nadia Fanchini has a broken arm and will probably miss the World Championship next month. Lindsey is thirteenth in a race where standings changed very frequently, see the unexpected first place of Christine Scheyer and the third place of American Jacqueline Wiles.

Sunny day in Wengen today.
Kristoffersen smiled.
And Hirscher as well when asked if he is worried about Kristoffersen's victories:)

Only two hours ago there was another one M 5.1

Currently, the snow is a bigger problem than earthquakes, highlights several mayors to RAI.
Amatrice is also affected by the worst snowstorm that has been in 50 years.
Several roofs have already collapsed and roads have been blocked because of avalanches.
Forecasts indicate continued intense snowfalls for another 48 hours.

Hotel Rigopiano in Comune Farindola, Pescara Province, hit by a snowslide which shifted it by 10 meters, according to rescuers. Two people saved, other 28 missing. The hotel is under the Gran Sasso Mountain. I am wondering about the possible effects of the seismic shocks in the delicate instrumentation of the Gran Sasso National Laboratories looking for dark matter (none found so far in the LUX expertiment).

Hotel Rigopiano...

The Gran Sasso National Laboratories are much more safe underground.

A quake can start avalanches if it coincides with a snowfall. This has happened in the Langtang valley in the Himalaya and probably happened also in Abruzzo. The first rescuers arrived on skis at 4 AM, since cars and trucks were blocked at 9 km and helicopters could not fly at night in a snowstorm. It looks like there are no other survivors except the first two who had exited from the hotel to smoke a cigarette and repaired in their car.

Today...

And of course all the people living in the region that have to suffer not only from snowstorms but earthquakes on the top of that.

Yesterday, Amatrice's mayor Sergio Pirozzi appealed for help from authorities in clearing snow from roads. Pirozzi said: "The emergency situation is not the earthquake, but the snow."

He cursed his region's bad luck, saying: "We haven't had snow like this in 70 years. What did we do wrong?"

It looks like an extreme event caused by global warming. 2016 was the warmest year on record according to NASA.

Idioms like this comes to mind.
En olycka kommer sällan ensam - When it rains, it pours.
Or "Everything comes in threes."
What's next in Italy?
A hurricane, a flood, or a wildfire?

Or perhaps...

When things get bad, Italians forget their divisions. Three hundred trained rescuers have left Milano and other Lombardy towns armed with anti-snow equipment from Linate and Malpensa airports and rescue helicopters. The main task is that of opening mountain roads to ambulances and trucks loaded with food.

Yes.
And
"Our thoughts go to people that were hit by another earthquake, again in the same region. At that time, we offered our solidarity and help with building a hospital in Amatrice. I can imagine how horrible it is, and if Italy needs assistance and support we will stand by it," Merkel said in Berlin.
