Hehe:)
Not Norway today.
However Aksel Svindal hurt his leg so it's uncertain if he can compete tomorrow in Die Streif.

That must be the reason why Weibrecht and Reichelt did not compete in the slalom on an icy trail. They wanted to avoid possible damages.

Ladies downhill on Olympic trail Le Tofane at Cortina d'Ampezzo;
1 Lindsey Vonn superstar
2 Larisa Yurkin Canada
3 Lara Gut Switzerland
4 Tina Weirather Lichtenstein
5 Johanna Schnarf Italia

I have climbed only Tofana II via an easy route. On the descent, I slipped on a rock strewn slope. But under the rocks there was ice and I slipped, bruising my arm. I had to go to the Emergency room at Pomedes, where they medicated me without any fee. They understood I had no money and was staying in a tent at Cortina, after coming from hut Dina Dordei above Misurina in the Cadini Group, which I had managed for a summer together with a friend. But when we closed the hut in September 1959 and went to Cortina, at night my friend went out nightclubbing in Cortina after I was aslept and spent all money we had earned with our labor. Ciao Giorgio, he later went to Australia and is now dead.

I missed the first part of the race because of the delay:(
Anyway. Aksel Svindal fell also but was not injured.

A bit history.
Hahnenhkamm races have been run in most years since 1931, but was founded many years earlier.
It was inspired by a Norwegian:) book.
Austrian Franz Reisch read thrilled Fridtjof Nansen's book "On ski across Greenland," and then ordered a couple of "boards" from Norway. These, he developed and 15th March 1893 he set off from the top of Kitzbüheler Horn.

Our commentors believed before the race that Innerhofer should win but it was Fill instead.

btw Niki Lauda and Arnold Swarzenegger was among the spectators.
And slalom is a Norwegian word:)

I still remember the 1975 event. Franz Klammer was already on the podium when there was a howl from the bystanders. At a midpoint checkpoint Gustav Thoeni, a slalom champion, had the best time. He lost by a few milliseconds, he should have been awarded the first place ex aequo with Klammer.

I dont remember that event but I remember Gustav Thöni.
And Piero Gros of course.

Did they really measured the time in milliseconds back then?
Still, Franz Klammer is not called "Kaiser" Franz for nothing.

No, they measured by hundredth like today. But independent timers spoke of a millisecond difference.

I see. A mathematical rounding could result in that the skiers was more close to win then we will see.
For instance a skier finish at 1:52.374 will win if the other skier finish at 1:52:375
Final result will be 1:52.37 and 1:52.38
After more than two minutes on the classic Streif course, he lost to the up-and-coming Austrian legend Franz Klammer by just one-hundredth of a second, a distance of about 25 cm (10 in) at 130 km/h (80 mph). This event inspired the 1981 movie Un centesimo di secondo by Duccio Tessari, which featured Thöni himself.

Aksel Svindal has seriously hurt his right knee (rottura del legamento crociato, I cannot translate, I am not a doctor) and shall be operated this evening in Innsbruck. His season is over.

It's the cruciate ligament and the meniscus.
Common injurie among skiers and football players.
The irony of it is that Aksel before the race told media "I'm not a football player" refering to his fall yesterday and therefore competed today.

- I think it's time for a new discussion about the safety factor in downhill, said Marcel Hirscher, and continues:
- It is difficult for the FIS director Marcus Waldner, and Race Director Hannes Trinkl to make the decision about whether it is safe. Now it's too late anyway. But I think it was too dangerous today. Until today, he was the best speed racer. I can only wish him the best and say that I hope that we see him next season - with a new, big comeback.

The show must go on, but I am sad. They are exploiting brave men and women for money's sake. I watched the brave girls race down the Tofana trail at 120 km/hour and I wondered if it was worthwhile. The Dolomiti mountains around Cortina are so beautiful, it is a pity not to stop and admire them. Last time I was in Misurina I went from Skilift Col de Varda to Rifugio Citta' di Carpi in a January day with my cross country skis at 5 km/h uphill and maybe 10 or 15 downhill and it was worthwhile.

Another accident at Kitzbuehel. Giuliano Razzoli falls on the first slalom gate and is rescued by helicopter and carried to an hospital.
