The International Association of Classical Archaeology deplores the proposal of the new Swedish government to cut the financing of the Swedish Institutes in Rome, Athens and Istanbul. This will inevitably lead to their closure.

I read that some place, was it not an offence
to write in the vernacular. Or was it just
offensive to do so.

Well, the first Italian text in "volgare" is the "Cantico" by San Francesco, who was the first to use the volgare to praise God. No, it was not forbidden, simply the Church used Latin as its language. Francesco was a reformer, almost a heretic one.

In those times you had to write in latin very much like today when you have to write in English in the scientific community.
They also had peer reviews in those days.

Just a short aside off topic and in English.

I started my working life in the Air Force a long time ago.
Surprising enough for me at the time was the prejudice I
noticed right off due to my quant east coast accent.
Even after all these years, people can still hear it very
well when I speak.

Both in Scandinavia and Italy we have several native languages.
Not accents:)
In Sweden we have Swedish, Sapmi and Meänkieli.
(Almost have to say Skånska as well:) )
In Italy Italian and German. Perhaps some more...
Here is Sapmi news Oddasat.
