Check Help ... About.

Title bar now says Boinc Version 4.12 instead of
Boinc Beta Version 4.05.

I have three systems running Boinc. Two of them installed v4.12 without any problems. Did not have to do anything special except close Boinc v4.09, of course and install v4.12 over it. One of the rigs is a P4-HT with XP Home SP1 and the other is a XP1600+ with XP Pro SP2.

The third has been a pain. I have tried installing over v4.09 which normally should work. I uninstalled Boinc completely and even deleted the directory. Then tried a fresh install. No luck, it hangs and shows 'not responding' every time. This is also a P4-HT system with XP Pro SP2. I will give the disconnect from the network idea a shot from the reference on that other thread, since I am on cable always on connection and see if that works.

I installed Boinc 4.12 without a glitch and it is running great for at least 24 hours now. AMD 2500+ and Win98se. I'm also attached to three projects with no problems. Uploads and downloads for all my projects are working.

98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8

And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer.

Actually, 4.12 is the first BOINC to admit it’s not Beta.
See this thread

The version of this release has changed from "Beta 4.09" to "Public 4.12"? This is very strange it should have been changed from "Beta 4.09" to "Pre Alpha 4.12"! This is definitely a joke of a release.

This forum, for the last 24h, has been full of warnings about v4.12. After almost 4 months I thought things could not get worse. I was obviously mistaken. A very sad situation.

So, I can take it from that last sentance that you are laughing?

As Contact said, there are always warnings, and problems for some. Others are either lucky or fortunate to not have problems.

A generalization is that if you have problems with one program of one version, it is very likely you will have problems with another version of the program. It may be the program, in this case BOINC, or it may be due to something else entirely.

For example, I have 6 computers and 5 of them have Windows XP Pro installed on them. And I get random errors and lock-ups, which, when the computer is restarted are claimed to be the fault of a device driver. Now, I can wail, gnash my teeth, rend my clothes, or just plain yell my heart out. But nothing is going to change about that situation so I just have to live with it (for those of us that are history buffs, the cause of the device driver bringing down the OS, which should not happen - by the way - is caused by a "minor" change Microsoft made to Windows NT when it was pre-GUI ... the change was to allow device drivers to run in "Ring-0", which of course increased system speed at the expense of, raise your hands ... lower stability; that is right, you get a cookie ...).

The "Beta" tag in the "Help" box was an error. A cosmetic one, and one which Rom talked about right after 4.09 came out. To be honest, I don't see that it matters what it says ...

[edit]
And for those of you that know I am not a Microsoft fan should also know that I can crash Macintosh OS-X 10.3.5 ... it is just harder ...

I could also take down VAZ VMS and OS/2 v4 (until SP4).

For me 4.09 seems to work fine. Will I gain anything by upgrading? If not is there any reason to take the risk?

Hi

I´m running 4.11 from Alpha page with no problems.
Will ignore the 4.12 and wait for 4.13.

Last nite I downloaded V4.12, which as soon as I installed it, and forced an update, it kindly informed me that a V4.13 was available.

What?!?!?!

I was just at that site, and downloaded V4.12. A page refresh didn't change anything, so I came back about an hour later, and BINGO!

V4.13 is there now.

I never had V4.12 long enough to see if I had any problems with it. Can't comment on V4.13, yet. Just finished installing it here on my other work machine.

Time will tell

People, BOINC core client, last verzion 4.13, DOESN'T have anything with crunching time! Only SETI@home client, last version 4.05 has something with it to do. And it is not an debug issue! Programmers of ti are checking it, where a problem is, that it takes so long.
