Hi guys,

after ~93.000 credits and almost 4 years of number crunching I am about to kick SETI from my PCs and workstations.

I am sad about not being able to upload done workunits.
No, there is nothing wrong with my proxy, http, DSL ... stuff. How would I have been able to write this note, if there would be something wrong with my configuration whatsoever....?

I would really appreciate if you guys will solve this pretty annoying thing of blocked uploads.

Thank you very much in advance.

You just need a little patience. BOINC will look after your work units. When the servers are back up & running your WUs will upload again.

SETI operates on a shoestring budget and as a result, sometimes things break.

The SETI@home staff are trying they're best to work on the budget they have. It is already stretched enough!! Your work will eventually go through.
People need to remember that SETI@home is not a multi million dollar corporation and is literally a few guys in an office at Berkley who are carrying out a computational experiment the likes the world has never seen. As computers get faster and more and more people join up to the project there are going to be load balancing issues. Patience is the key. If they had an endless pit of money there wouldn't be any issues.

As I stated above your work will eventually go through, mine usually only goes through during the middle of the night and when the upload server is on of course. I usually suspend communication during the day to give others the chance of the bandwidth.

I don't think anyone would have blamed your configuration since there are a few threads around here complaing and explaining the problem.

It'd be such a shame to waste 4 years and 93,000 credits all for a lack of patience and understanding.

I'm sure no one wants this fixed more than the SETI@Home staff.

Their life is much easier when everything goes smoothly.

First off, grats on your massive contribution to the SETI project. It would be a shame to let that stop.

You are not alone. Alot of us cannot upload. It's not a problem with you, exactly, it's both a problem with SETI, and the sheer number of us.

The SETI servers are up a hill from the university. While the university has gigabit internet, they could only get a 100MB/s cable up there. That's all and good for most projects, and was good for SETI for a while, it's not good for SETI now, because of the number of people trying to upload at once.

SETI needs money for gigabit to the lab, but right now, the priority goes to paying the people that are working at the lab, and the hardware that keeps the project alive. Many have suggested ways to speed up the uploading, but all of them require money, client changes, or some other thing that will take time or effort that be wasted; it would just delay the problem.

Just let BOINC do it's job. It will eventually get through all of those uploads.

HOWEVER, BEFORE YOUR UPLOAD QUEUE GETS TO BE ABOVE THE NUMBER OF CPU CORES YOU HAVE * 2, SET YOUR CACHE TO 10 DAYS, SO YOU HAVE ENOUGH WORK! ONCE YOUR UPLOAD QUEUE GETS TOO BIG, BOINC WILL REFUSE TO GET NEW TASKS!

I've been able to get uploads through about once a day now, generally need to hammer it, but it's not too bad. This time of day seems to be the best for me.

Same here, only about 450 WU left... now I just need some more downloads! 2x GTX 260-216 each averaging 1WU/10m and 7cpu (use the last one for loading GPUs) averaging 1WU/1hr (30m-2h most of the time), so these should run out pretty quickly.
