How do i contact the managers and the people behind seti@home via e-mail? Generally speaking it's very difficult to get through their mail filters. There has been over 1 million project accounts, the few people associated with the project couldn't handle the volume of enquiries. These forums are the place to ask any questions. Volunteers will do their best to assist you. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

you can setup the yellowdog linux or check out Dotsch's Linux on the Linux Forum. These are meant to be installed on PS3. once the Linux OS is installed you can install and run BOINC on your PS3. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

It would be nice if for once you read what he wrote. He already knows how to do BOINC and Seti on his PS3 (see his old thread asking for how to do that) and after he emailed Sony Entertainment with this information, they sent him an email back. He is now offering to share that email with the Seti admins. Maybe something in the order of, "Hey, what's this then and can we distribute it to our 22.24 million users?" ... Something Seti really can't handle at this time. :-) |

And you'll see on His other postthat he wants to know how to set up a PS3 with BOINC. He was told how and pointed to the instructions. Having an email from SONY is nice but this topic is already been talked and the necessary OS and app from dotsch are available. So yes I understood what he was asking I'm just wondering why he's not following the instructions he was already given In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Ageless is complete correct in saying that SETI@home could not possibly handle the volume of work being talked about here. Don't forget we are talking about a computer grid that is already expanding into territories that the servers at Berkley are having trouble dealing with. Also with regards to SONY pre-installing Linux and the BOINC system onto the PS3 there would most likely be alot of red tape that the SETI@home staff simply have no time for. For example SONY would want testing of system integrity and performance implications if they pre-installed this system. There would be legal issues with the fact that you need to ask an owner for permission to use they're resources, this means alot of time and money spent on re-designing the Setup screen when you first purchase and switch on the PS3 to configure it and acknowledge the acceptance of a seperate set of Terms Of Service for the BOINC system... It would be better to see if SONY decide that they want to install a LINUX distro onto they're boxes, and if they got to this stage of development then the user can "sudo apt-get" (Or Other Package Manager) the BOINC software for themselves... My guess is that jasdeep simply received a form-letter touting the PS3's power, sales, and its ability to crunch - with no mention of pre-bundling or assistance in setting up the crunching at all. |

@OzzFan: Your more than likely bang on the money!!! @jasdeep: If you feel the e-mail is of serious interest and contains valuable content not just some generic reply based on the theme of your original message then PM it to a forum moderator, if they too feel it is interesting enough to warrant passing it on, they will do!!! Or post it on this board (removing any sensitive information of course) and it will be read or passed up to the necessay people if it is deemed credible... I want to thank you for all your thoughtful responses that you all have given me. They were very appreciated. I've contacted the director and there is no need for this thread and i'm closing it. Thanks again, and you all can except a nice change IF everything goes well |
