Hello I am running seti@home, I can dl work packets fine, but it seems it will not upload them. Is tehre anything i can do to try and get them to upload? Any settings I need to tweak? |

Hello Nope. At the moment there is a huge amount of work being downloaded & uploaded. End result- a lot of uploads can't get through. BOINC is designed to handle this & it will keep retrying to upload the result. Every now & then one will upload. And once the traffic eventually starts to drop off then whatever is left will clear with a rush. Grant Darwin NT |

Ahh, thanks a lot! I thought it was an issue on my side :). I have been kinda out of the loop in seti@home for thelast years. I used to run it regulary in 2003, but only now I can begin to run it regulary again :P. Tho I must say I liked the graphics better in the 2003 version ;) (but the new feature to set graphics % usage is very nice). |

Same problem here. Now, I have been crunching for SETI since 1999, it's the reason I started and is the reason why I have been leaving the PC's on most of the time (with some added costs to the family electricity bill). The increased time taken to upload results (at times considerable) is becoming somewhat frustrating... I am not prone to criticism unless truly warranted and I am afraid this is one of these instances. I have had to turn my machines off at night and when they are on during the day, they often fail to upload a unit after infinite retries; then when I turn them on again the following morning... you guessed it, it's too late and one of the units is now overdue. Not a happy camper. As a side note, I have pretty good crunching and unit turnaround times. As this appears to be a known problem, may I respectfully suggest SETI increases the deadline by a few days, a week maybe? Sure they cannot be needed that urgently... A minor tweak to the deadline would allow the upload servers to get around to receiving the units in time; conversely, this would mean crunchers are not wasting valuable CPU time and electricity (environment, anyone?). I apologise if this solution was already suggested elsewhere. |

Same problem here. A subtly different solution may actually be implemented. What happens when a deadline is passes is that a new task is split off to replace the one that passed the deadline. The one that is being replaced is now in a race against the replacement. Note that for the weekly planned outage, deadline enforcement would be suspended until 24 hours after the recovery was nearly completed, not just 24 hours after the outage completed. If deadline enforcement is suspended until 24 hours after an outage or major slowdown in either the report or upload, then the effective deadline for those tasks that expired during the "problem" is delayed until 24 hours after the "problem" is over. During this 24 hours, they will be uploaded and reported if either the connection is on always, or the connect interval is 24 hours or less as it covers the automatic backoffs that can last for up to 24 hours for reporting. Thanks for the quick reply, fairly interesting. Only query I have is what happens if there were no major outages: if it was simply a case of severely backed up servers, as indicated by one of the posters above? Or from another perspective, is my overdue unit (when finally uploaded) going to be used by the project, provided it was received before the replacement? |

Or from another perspective, is my overdue unit (when finally uploaded) going to be used by the project, provided it was received before the replacement? Yes. "Deadline" does not mean that your result is automatically ignored. It is just the trigger for another copy to be sent out in case your's does not come back at all. If your's gets back before the replacement, then you will get the credits (providing it validates OK) and the system will also wait until the replacement is returned or times out before deleting the WU to ensure that that cruncher is not penalised either. I recently had 20 WUs done and ready, but took them two days to upload. Now that they did upload I got due credit of course. As I have ccoem to understand from my questions and reading, its a server issue on SETIs side. Currently I am not reciving any WUs at all. I sigend up for risetta and Einsiten, and gave them 5% share each, so that at least lets me controbute until SETI gets its servers sorted :). |

Thanks for the clarification. To be honest I have been crunching for so long I am way over the "credit" thingy... I do it for the science and what the project means to me, for as small my contribution is, whilst knowing the pc's are doing something useful when idle. The disappointment for potentially "lost" or ignored units has more to do with all the above then with any credit given. |

Sorry to add to the bucket load of threads about upload problems but this one seemed the closest to the issues I have which may not be related to a back log. I've been out of the seti@home loop for quite a while too but decided to get back into it for a bit of fun and curisoity. I installed BOINC a few days ago and got a heap of tasks to process but I've now done all those and not a single one has uploaded so I've effectively run out because no more will download. I have a feeling that my issues may be something to do with my particular config. I'm running Vista Ultimate SP2 with 4GB of RAM and a 3GHz processor. What I think might be an issue is that I'm running a number of development servers on this machine too. I do a lot of web dev work. I'm running SQL Server 2005 SP2, IIS7 on localhost, and ColdFusion 8 on localhost:8500 Could it be that this may be causing an issue. I have tried a number of solutions mentioned here but no joy at all. TIA!! ++++ KPA ++++ |

The upload server was down for over 12 hours earlier, so there is a huge backlog of work all trying to upload. As that work gets through, people are able to download more work, and as that gets processed it needs to upload as well. If there are no more server glitches, uploads should go through on their first or second attempt sometime in the next 18 hours or so. As it is, a few get through every now & then. Grant Darwin NT |

Yes, aftr being out of the SETI loop myself for a while I got too eager, wanted instant responses. But it seems that the client will sort it self out when the server gets fully up and running. I can suggest signing up to a new project, and just allocate its resource shre way lower then SETI so as not to "waste" CPU cycles :). I did this to run Einstein and such while SETI uploads and downloads the taskes, then I cruch SETI tasks at full speed as soon as tehy are ready. :) |

Well, at least with this upload problem that is apparently affecting my Docking and Einstein as well, I can say that the Climateprediction I've been working on for the last year is finally getting some quality time. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

Uploads to Seti have been going through with no problems for almost 48 hours now. Grant Darwin NT |

An upload problem at one project cannot affect other projects. CPDN might have been detected as having a deadline problem and that might be preventing downloads from everything else. BOINC WIKI |

7/25/2009 9:50:36 PM|Einstein@Home|Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 94.5% of time, computation enabled 84.7% of that Looks like your work is uploading OK, but you won't get any new work until you finish your Einstien & Docking work that you already have. The work you have, and the amount of time that is available to process it means you've got as much work as you can handle at the moment. Grant Darwin NT |

Well, I've been getting these messages, I assumed it was the same problem everybody else has been getting: Can't check you account since you have set it to hide the computers. My guess is that you're using Version 6.6.37 or .37. I had the same problem and reverted to V6.6.31 which is the last version that I knew for sure didn't have this work fetch calculation bug. I'm using .36 right now. Please keep in mind that I am not computer literate. Please make all answers the best layman's terms you have. |

I'm using .36 right now. Sorry, about earlier typo. version .36 and .37 have the problem. .38 corrected the problem but a change on the upload logic caused the GUI on that version to completely freeze up Boinc on my system so I'm back at .31 |
