I also just installed a Geforce 9500. When BOINC loads, the CUDA device is recognized, and CUDA jobs download OK. But when they run, they are slower, not faster than CPU tasks. 6/30/2009 10:12:26 PM CUDA device: GeForce 9500 GT (driver version 18618, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, est. 15GFLOPS) The GFLOPS rating is rather low but that is the design of that GPU card. Nothing you can do about it. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

OOPS! I didn't know that when I ordered this card. Since I bought it expressly to run SETI tasks faster, should I return it and order something else? Which model would work for the lowest cost? What GFLOPS rating is needed? Thanks for your help! Bruce. |

Here are the reported info for each of my GPU cards. CUDA device: GeForce GTX 260 (driver version 18618, compute capability 1.3, 896MB, est. 89GFLOPS) CUDA device: GeForce 9800 GTX+ (driver version 18618, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, est. 84GFLOPS) CUDA device: GeForce 9800 GT (driver version 18618, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, est. 60GFLOPS) Faster GFLOPS will crunch the work faster. Which one to buy depends on your budget. I believe right now the 9800 GTX+ is probably the best bang for the buck. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

But that wouldn't be for the lowest cost though, would it? |

Not necessarily lowest cost but the best CUDA throughput for the money spent. Boinc....Boinc....Boinc....Boinc.... |

I have located a 9800gtx+ from Dell for 149.99, but I believe that they are available for less, so I'm shopping. (The person at Dell did not seem to know what GFLOPS means, and I could only say it has to do with speed.) The problem now is that this card needs a 450 watt power supply, but my Dell 530 has a 300 watt. So now, I need a new power supply as well! |

Thanks for that. The one I found is an XFX. Is there any significant difference? Also, any advice on a power supply? |

Thanks for that. The one I found is an XFX. Is there any significant difference? Hi, I'd have to know for sure which XFX card you are looking at but the XFX 9800 GTX+ 512MB I see at Newegg has a Core Clock 738MHz vs the EVGA Core Clock 756MHz, so I'd go with the EVGA. I also have had good luck with EVGA cards, and tend to lean toward them anyway, so I may be bias, lol. Newegg even has some suggestions for a PS on the page they show the cards, but I'm not sure what your plans in the future for expanding, Mobo, case, etc... so I hesitate to offer much on that. |

Yes... but he has a Dell. Doesn't Dell almost demand you only use Dell certified components or else they just won't be recognized or run, or fit in the case? (A bit like Compaq did...) |

Thanks. I'm off to North Carolina mountains for a week... When I get back, I'll get going on this. Sure appreciate the help. Bruce. |
