Video: James May at the Edge of Space This is a TV program that was on BBC 4 in the UK on the 21st June. James May gets a rare glimpse of life at the "edge of space" as he flies 70,000 ft above the Earth in a U2 spy plane. The film footage inside the U2 spy plane and the views of the edge of space are just spectacular! Its a torrent file so you need torrent software to download the video. He meets three of the men who walked on the moon, before experiencing the thrill of weightlessness, and the bone-crushing G forces of a Saturn V rocket launch. Finally, he puts on his own space suit and flies to the edge of space in a U2 spy plane, where he looks down at the curvature of the earth, and upwards into the black infinity of space. This programme was brilliant. I'm not normally a fan of James May as he can come across as a bit arrogant, but I think he seemed in awe of the challenge ahead of him when he made this programme! If you get a chance to watch it then you really must. The documentary afterwards which showed James May preparing and training for his trip to the edge of space was also really interesting and showed a lot more footage of behind-the-scenes preperations. Fascinating stuff. |

Viki, I'm not particularly a fan of James May either, i find him a bit drab. But in this case, i agree with you, he was excellent. It was a fascinating incite into sub-orbital flight. The thing that i am most excited about is Virgin Galactic which are about a year away from taking fare paying passengers into space. Thats going to be the big one. But i did enjoy watching James May in these programs. John. |
