I've got a couple that have the Validate error which appear to be like the ones mentioned here, but I also have wuid=452843970 which has a Validate error too, though I returned it on 7 Jun 2009 6:14:32 UTC. My wingman and I appear to have the same result and he has the Validate error as well. Is there a chance the workunits are the problem?

Found just the one so far 459928312 but then I'm not uploading much at present . Both run by the same opt app - I think I remember reading elsewhere of some issues relating to validation errors between CUDA and opt apps? [Edit: Spoke to soon - noticed a few more now]

I did see mention there were some questionable data files 54205 so we could be seeing workunit problems and the general server problems might be a red
herring in terms of validate erors.

Have turned off network access for now until things quieten down just to be on the safe side.

That's a nice thought Questor but I have not had any problem validating against either stock or cuda before now. These are the first two validate errors I have had that I can remember. The only thing close was to have it go out to a third to confirm but I've always got credit. This is too many people being effected to be our problem. It has to be server side.

True. My hopeless memory is now telling me the validation issue was related to inconclusive rather than invalid anyway. I guess we'll just have to sit tight until the storm is over. I am sure the guys are doing their best to get things sorted out - they always do!

Crunchers -Please be aware there is currently a server issue with people Receiving Sporadic or New Work as well as Uploading completed WU's. The Admins are aware of this issue and are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This message will be deleted when the issue is resolved.

and, a Suggestion - for the Time being: Suspend network activity - user request UNTIL the ISSUES are corrected [including VALIDATE ERRORS]

46 validate errors, including an Astropulse unit :-(

Suspending network activity is not an option if you're running a backup project and suspending Seti doesn't seem to suspend uploads.

Another way to stop Seti uploads only is to block access to berkely upload server IP addresses (If you can do it easily).

Another advantage of CPDN as a backup project. Network activity can be suspended for as long as you like (up to about a month) and it will not flinch :)

My firewall is not that user-friendly :-(
For now I disabled network access on the pc's that still have a sufficient cache of Seti units and I suspended Seti on the pc's already running my backup project. Either way the WU's are not reported and I assume validation only takes place after reporting the WU's.

I will survive that 3k credit loss :-), but people running only one pc that just squeezed out an 80 hour AP unit will have a bigger issue when they find it's invalid...

I just had an AP unit I returned in May that failed validate. Wingman returned his yesterday and both were marked Failed Validate at that time. Two WUs have been sent out as replacements. If it wasn't AP I wouldn't mind so much.

I am not a happy camper!!!

I'm up to 5 now. As people try and upload their work, the list grows.

Right. I've just managed to upload and report a couple of WU's that have VALIDATED OK :)) - both I and the wingmen have reported since the outage.

So, the logic seems to be that when one report was before the outage, and the second was after the outage, then the result is "Validate Error". If both reported before, or both reported after the outage then no problem.

At least this puts a boundary on the number of false "Validate Errors" in the system for Eric to catch with one of his famous scripts.

Still not able to upload myself and I did have network disabled since earlier today but my total credit has recently gone up and pending credit reduced so wingmen must be validating my already retured WUs OK.

... or of course they validaters may be working on a backlog of old WUs from before the problems.

So they may have fixed whatever was causing the validation errors?

Is this problem big enough for us to switch our computers to another project until the problem is resolved? I'm getting validate errors at a level I've never seen before and it is discomforting. (Being nice with the wording here)

Bcause I no longer crunch purely SETI, I can't suspend network activity, I have loads of SETI units trying to upload. If by some miracle it uploads it's promptly trashed by the servers. If I loose many more I will crunch no more, my 10 years is almost there, beyond that I think I'll be off.

I have no outgoing firewall.

To allow downloading/uploading of backup projects and to deny upload only to SETI@Home - I added into my "hosts" file the line "127.0.0.1 setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu" (so upload address points to my computer which never answers to BOINC Manager as real S@H upload server).

Tomorrow I will comment this line and retry to upload S@H-results...

I allowed one task to upload, and rather than go straight to validate error, so far it remains pending. I'm waiting a while to see if it's going to validate.
