Welcome, I seem to be in need of assistance. I joined the SETI project just a few days ago, and all seemed to be going well. Up to a point that is. My OS crashed (I don't think it was caused by the SETI though) and, frankly, I got fed up with it. So i decided to get rid off Windows and put Linux in. Again, all is well, Boinc works fine BUT... I had an unfinished WU when the whole thing crashed. Now, after the OS reinstall Boinc seems to have downloaded a different WU.Indeed, it's churning it even now. The question is - what of the old one? It certainly was deleted from my HD, but is there any way to resume working on it? |

Nope, sorry. Don't worry though, that work will go out to another cruncher to do. The windows and the linux apps are not compatable so you wouldn't have been able to finish it anyway. Almost forgot, welcome to SETI. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

I was tempted last year or so to change to Linux and give it a try when I bought my new PC with Windows Vista. But after all this time I got used to it and it works just fine. The BOINC manager is a good tool that knows how to do the work. You just switch it on and forget about it! Welcome to the boards. |

Well, that settles the matter then. Thank you for the welcomes. Hopefully my present system will prove less prone to dying on me at inappropriate times (although to Windows' credit I have to admit that I suffered maybe three major system crashes in a span of about ten years - I'll see how Linux copes). |
