There's a problem with the servers at this moment. Nobody will be around to look at it in Berkeley for another 8 hours and it could be that things won't really settle down until after the weekly maintenance outage at the end of their working day.

[edit]PS. Welcome to the boards[/edit]

[edit2]Looks like someone kicked something remotely out of hours (again). I'm starting to get some work coming through between the "No Work" messages. Hang in there.[/edit2]

Ahh - looks like what I thought might have been a remote kick, was just the regular midnight traffic peak (data dump?). You can see what is happening at the server end on the cricket graph.

What is so difficult to understand with "Project has no jobs available"?

Did you read the other messages in this thread?

Thanks, just confirms that there's problems elsewhere and it's not my end...

Just surprised to find that it's had "no jobs to do" for a month...

Shall be very patient and let people sort it all out and the program pick up where it all left off...

I just couldn't find anything on the SETI home page or anywhere other than some comments on the forums about the servers being down... was expecting a big banner headline somewhere obvious to tell me that there'd been problems for a long time... nothing...

It's not constantly out of jobs. The splitters are just sometimes offline or can't produce work as fast as needed.

So, stay tuned ;-)

Nick, your computers are hidden so it is hard to tell but are you still also running Climate prediction? If so you could be running up against a long term debt situation. As for no work you had this.. 25/05/2009 23:46:10 SETI@home Restarting task ap_12mr09ag_B6_P0_00294_20090427_08387.wu_0 using astropulse_v5 version 503. Astropulse work takes a long time to complete especially on a machine like yours..25/05/2009 23:45:37 Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.60GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8]. Because of the time it takes to run an Astropulse WU you won't get any new work until it is almost finished.

As you can see I reset and it then downloaded some files and tells me that there's no tasks and no jobs available...
Does that mean that I've just deleted all the work that had been done and it's kept a track of where I've got to so when it downloads the latest data etc it then realises that I've already done the work it's just downloaded ?

Also are you able to tell me why it's not been able to get any data to work with since the 27th April and when my Average stats were running at nearly 0.27 they've dropped away to now be at 0.07... and my total has been stuck at 6627.32 since then as well :( ?

Sorry about that perryjay, we were typing at the same time...

So are you saying that because I don't run the Climate prediction part of BOINC as often as SETI - which are on two different machines - that it's restricting the work that SETI can do until I get CP to return some data, or is it that SETIs got to return the data and it's got to be confirmed to be correct ?
You've lost me a bit with the details about an Autopulse WU...

Think I'll just leave it sitting there for a few more months and check on it then to see if it's still stuck...?

Ok, as I said, I can't see your computers so I didn't know CPDN was on a different computer. In that case then no, it won't effect your SETI work.

I am seeing this though.. 26/05/2009 11:08:51 Resuming computation.
This was after you reset. Are you still showing the AP task in your boinc manager and does it show as running? The stuff that downloaded after you reset are the files SAH needs to do it's job. When you hit reset you told it you needed them again. I'm not sure if the reset lost your AP WU though.

Does that mean that I've just deleted all the work that had been done

Yes, if you didn't upload and report before the reset, all work done has been discarded by you.

and it's kept a track of where I've got to so when it downloads the latest data etc it then realises that I've already done the work it's just downloaded ?

No, BOINC keeps only track of what it has downloaded until you upload the result.

It just has nothing to download at the moment!

Also are you able to tell me why it's not been able to get any data to work with since the 27th April and when my Average stats were running at nearly 0.27 they've dropped away to now be at 0.07... and my total has been stuck at 6627.32 since then as well :( ?

Yes, though it's only an assumption, since your compters are hidden. You had an AstroPulse task, which occupied your machine so much that it needed no further tasks. Probably you have just discarded the task by resetting and now your RAC will drop further, since no more work is available.

But to be sure go to the Your Computers page and check the outcome of your tasks.

Gundolf

That won't help right now as the replica server is way behind and is not showing current data.

I'll start by saying sorry to Xcomb for hijacking his thread... hopefully it's relevant ?!

Ok both, many thanks for your time and pointers, I'll try to answer both together here...

Yes I updated everything and there were no APs left showing so I guess that my stats may take a jump one way or the other soon...?!

It's all working again :)

I guess things must have caught up with themselves and : -

As you have said it's WAY behind on the stats on My Computer showing 43,712 - I see I missed a 6 off, it should have read 66627.32...

Nick - now off to see how the other PC's running CPDN...

I'd encourage you to connect with another project so that your spare processing capacity can be used when there are no SETI WUs available. I am also connected to World Community Grid and to Rosetta@Home. I use WCG on my more powerful machines with SETI, and on my less powerful machines, I use the Rosetta application mainly because I can specify how long I want their WUs to occupy my machine. On many of my less meaty machines the Astropulse applications would never get finished before the deadline in the time that the machine is on, so I have also set up a separate category (well, I use the already set up 'Home' for those machines) and specify that Home machines are not to take AP applications.
