What brand and model videocard do you have?
Have you updated its drivers to something more recent?
Have you updated your DirectX to at least 9.0c?

The graphics and screen saver are programmed in OpenGL; not all default Windows installed videocard drivers enable the OpenGL part of the videocard. You need drivers from the manufacturer of the card for that.

dxdiag will tell you what kind of videocard you have. Your monitor is of no consequences in this, it'll show whichever graphics the videocard will throw at it.

While you're in dxdiag anyway, write down the driver version for the videocard as well and post that here.

I have the same configuration (in a laptop) and the graphics work. At least for MultiBeam - I don't run AstroPulse.

You can use the Driver Detection Utility. It will detect what driver you have, then download and install the correct drivers it finds for your chipset.

See this page for more information.

Product Detected Intel® 845G
Current Driver Installed 6.14.10.4020
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.

seti boinc is the only program having problems

I can't find any more information on this. Gandalf... um oops, Gundolf, can you check what's different on your laptop that you managed to get it to work?

I don't wear a white beard (no beard at all to be exact) ;-)

I do have another (higher) chip number and driver version. I'm pretty sure that the SETI (and other) screensavers worked from the beginning (several years ago), though I did install a new driver version (from the intel site, I think) at one time to get SpellForce to work. Excerpt from my dxdiag output:
        Card name: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
     Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
        Chip type: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Controller

       Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3582&SUBSYS_00391025&REV_02
   Display Memory: 64.0 MB
     Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
          Monitor: (Standardmonitor)
  Monitor Max Res:
      Driver Name: ialmrnt5.dll
   Driver Version: 6.14.0010.4497 (English)

Gundolf
[edit] Just found an older dxdiag.txt with driver version 6.14.0010.4277 [/edit]
