I want to install ubuntu as my operating system, but am new to the environment. How would I go about installing the Linux version of seti to this operating system?

Yes I have installed ubuntu, and I have downloaded the stable version of linux. When I attempt to open the downloaded file it keeps asking me for the program to use to open the file. This is where I get lost. I have no experience using ubuntu or how to manage programs on its file system, but I want to get away from windows and need all the help I can get. Thanks.

Please have a look at the detailed Linux installation howto in the inoffical BOINC wiki http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Installing_The_BOINC_Client_Software_on_Linux

Btw. I have made a special BOINC distribution (Dotsch/UX), based on Ubuntu. It includes the BOINC client and is a little bit more specialized for BOINC, than Ubunutu. Eventualy a alternative...
