Hi

The message on the home page states If the project runs out of work again you are welcome to revert back to the original SAH client.

If we revert back and continue with work units under the old SETI. Will they do another rollover to the new??

I have alrady done over 400 more units on the old before I realised they cut over. I know the numbers are not the reason we are here, but they are a guage of what we are doing.

Just a guess here, but I would bet they do a final snapshot when they close the S@H classic project.

I hope so.... It's not like I'm even close to what some would be shorted but I did about 1000 in less than 2 months and was happy. To me it's about the science but I'd at least like to be given credit even if it's just for my own minor amusement and/or records.

At this point I won't switch back. I'm here to stay!!

That's too late for me, has I'm a newbie, and created a new acount at BOINC(although my "old" seti account had 200+ WU). What would happen then? Would they merge both accounts into one? That would be nice, but are they gonna do it?

Is that it? Are we to believe, that BOINC project just came out too early than it should have? BOINC is my game now, and I'm here to stay, no matter what. If there are bugs in application, fix them. I'll wait. But my interest for other more stable projects (like Predictor) is beginning to grow. I would not like to join these other projects. Don't get me wrong, they have very noble causes behind (I don't want to overestimate it either), but my belief is that medical achievements on these projects are not to grant free vaccines to underdeveloped countries. I would be lying if I thought otherwise. IMHO, SETI is not so noble in it's goal, but it's far more fascinating. Let's give a chance to BOINC (it comes with a much nicer screensaver too :) ).

Sorry, but your "we" doesn't speak for me. I'm *only* in it for the numbers. Perhaps another project will catch my interest in helping with the science, but seti seems fundamentally flawed. Analyzing radio frequency data from many light years away would only show us of another primitive life like ourselves limited to light speed communications. Being lagged 10 seconds on IRC is bad enough...what kind of conversation could be had with 10, 100, 200 years of lag? If a civilization is advanced enough to actually visit and interact with us, they certainly wouldn't be using radio wave communications. I know the idea behind seti isn't to interact w/ aliens, and from what I've read the idea is simply to prove existence of intelligent life elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned, they're already here. There are more than 3 dimensions, and we don't need to look light years away. Give me nice stats pages and let me compare numbers based on country, home, school, work, class, daily, weekly, all-time, etc...seeing who's next to chase down, who is catching up...g33k bragging rights. If I get that then I'm happy, and others like you are benefiting from my electronic ego trip. It's a win-win. Limit it to doing it purely for "the science" and you'll lose participants like me...and most of those like me are running rediculous numbers of machines. I have a $300/mo electric bill, most of which is seti-related with a bunch of boxes running command line clients with no monitors or keyboards plugged in. Eventually, I think I'll find a project I personally feel is worthwhile and throw some heart in to it...but in the mean time I'm *only* doing it for the numbers. (And still only on seti classic since I've yet to receive a single work unit from ploink's overloaded, premature public release). Oh...the sound of ~100 cpu & power supply fans & hard drives whirring, & the sight of all the lil LED's blipping around on the switches and hubs is pretty neat, too :).
