I closed my app info thread to clear things up. I found I cannot use my 2nd card for CUDA and will only use it for video.

Presently boinc sees 2 units but feeds 2 workunits simultaneously to the first card.

How can I set things so that only one application feeds one workunit to the first card only and ignore anything to do with the second card?

I am running x86_64 linux.

What Boinc core version you using? Should try newest release. It use and report only fastest card by default as new feature. :)

Have to add line to cc_config.xml for to use all cards..

<use_all_gpus>1<use_all_gpus>

Also, you can try use number_gpus file set to 1? Maybe have for switch slots if wrong card loaded. Not sure how the app works if it will always use the same GPU?

6.6.20 linux version does not recognize either of those settings. they appear for newer versions which are not available in linux yet. 6.6.20 is newest. :(

it does use only the tesla, but it sends 2 workunits simultaneously :(

Sorry about that Chuck. I realized you were using Linux after posting. Forgot the app was a different source than windows. Congrats on getting it crunching at all. I never was able to get it working on ubuntu hardy. Might shoot you a pm if I ever set up my 8400gs box again and play with some flavor of linux on there.

edit to add:
Just remembered from another thread. To make all cards work properly with 185.85 I must exent my desktop onto all cards. Never had to do this with any previous driver in XP.
Maybe something like this can help in Linux?

maybe. however at this time it is a moot point since i cannot use the 2nd card. out of memory errors. i use a huge desktop video chunk with 12 desktops each loaded so i am trying to find out how to limit a single workunit to the tesla rather than 2 for now. I figure when I get my GS250 in a few months that will cure the entire situation since boinc will be able to use both cards.

would enjoy a pm discussion about the tesla. i am trying to find out how i can increase its performance. i think it may be locked in the bios and somehow there is a way of setting it otherwise what good would an engineering mode card be if they can't play with it? :)

did you receive any info with yours? I got nothing but the card from someone. I wasn't even sure it worked when I traded for it but it does.

Finally figured out how to overclock the darn thing if that's what you mean. Requires random hocus pocus with riva tuner extend desktop settings toying and various boots during certain moon phases coinciding with apogees and parogees.

Will shoot you a PM if I can this afternoon. Same story with mine btw, no nothings but a card in a static bag.

I also have been playing with some mods particular to the Tesla to better tune Raist's app to utilize it. That's why I want to know how much % GPU utilized.

You may be able to use that to tell if my mods make more throughput. I have been using a kill-a-watt working under the impression the greater the differential between full CPU load ie. benchmark peaks and full GPU load ie. crunching would give me the difference between idle and 100% for the cards. SO buy plotting this number as adjustments are made. I assume the more watts my card is consuming the higher my throughput?.?

Anyway, nice to meet you. Look forward to optimizing our rigs. PM is in the works. IF you have any idea how much your computer is drawing from the wall that would probably help. Mine does 713 watts all day with maybe a momentary small (+- ~20w) fluctuation an hour running bare bones xp+clean boot+no login. Truly the desktop supercomputer has finally arrived. Or in my case "coffeetable top"

cool! i have one antec blue 650w psu powering the entire thing. i have no method of measuring draw on an individual computer. i do know that my 1000va ups is running at 73.0 Percent Load Capacity but that is with my desktop computer with the tesla, another 933mhz computer, router, firewall, switch and 2 phones. :) so my guess is it is drawing less than 600w total. i suppose i will have to make up a plug arrangement to hook a meter in series with one of the wires to check current drain on just the workstation. if i do go thru that i will let you know what it draws idle/boot and full load.

if i have to run windows utilities to do this, if it can be saved in its bios then its worth hooking up a spare drive and installing xp just for this purpose. i run xp in vmware but that is useless for this purpose. alternative i can see if i can make the windows utility run under wine. :)

I figured we could find a Linux app that makes the same registry flags (or Linux equivalent) sorry my Linux experience is mediocre. I prefer it and only used linux on my personal machines till I got married (not a complaint, changed to winblows for partners convince and gaming) Will play with linux again when can whip up a box then dual boot all hosts after I figure cuda linux out.
Anyway, in windows I could just copy paste the needed bit in registry so ought to be able to OC in linux as well. I will look into the subject and let you know if I find any promising links. Alright ttfn. Just checking in as I woke up to a frozen system *DOH* (in Homers voice)..

P.S. Note to self: Don't fiddle with exotic ram timings 10 min before bed in an effort to increase production by ~1 cobblestone/day ;)

Edit to add:
Just reread your last bit again. Yea, flashing the card bioses would save a world of headache I went through to get evrything OC'ed at startup. Haven't had the time to look into how to flash the cards yet.

Have a go with EVGA Precision for OC your Tesla if you haven't already. It's a slick little app.

ok will try it.. i have nvclock a linux utility to set items on nvidia cards but it doesnt support overclocking low level on gt200 processors yet :( have to use the driver with 'coolbits' enabled but the driver cannot change the clock only the fan speed.

I can't even get ubuntu to use the cards. I install 185. sumthin less than .85 (latest linux drv) and reboot it boots in low graphics mode. I configure for use the drivers it boots desktop but no restricted drivers in use. Had it working before app was available but dunno how. Maybe MB issue this gigabyte s-series is flaky at best. Guy at the comupter store actually was concerned it woldn't run. But reasurred him (at the time) I was only to run Linux then he says no problem. lol

i just realized that our email server is very picky and may reject unknown senders for a myriad of reasons so i set my profile back to pm to my account page and after i get your email address i will add it to the global whitelist on the server so it ignores things like relay blacklists, spam count spf, etc/

finally fixed the problem. i had to get 6.6.29 source code and compile my own x86_64 "distribution" and with the setting of 0 for use_all_gpus in cc_config plus setting number_of_gpus to 1 that cured the double feeding of the tesla. it now only fees one app/wu at a time.
