For the logest time I was unable to get CUDA work to process on my HP DV9000 with an 8600m. Up till now it would immediately end the WU with computation error.

I tried this will various versions of CUDA, both stock and Raistmer's APPs with no success.

For the hell of it, I decided to try it with the new 185.58 drivers and CUDA 2.2 DLLs and Raistmer's v11. VIOLA! It worky!

If anyone else is having this problem, give this combo a shot and see if it helps.

I recognize that picture (and RAC) anywhere. What's with the name change? (Tw34k3d)

What's in a name? A cruncher by any other name crunches the same?

The web is getting too polluted with my real name. You do a search for it and you get a ton of seti stuff. Tw34k3d is my XBOX Live! gamer tag. I think I need to start using it instead of my real name. Just something I have been cosidering for a while. No biggie.

Yep, i just put 3 8600 cards to good use because of the new combo. BTW, do you have any RAC estimated for these cards? If they do a mere RAC of 1000/day I would be pleased.....

My laptop with a T7300 Intel Core Duo and GT 8600M has been running opp apps for some time. I'm currently at 3125 RAC for that machine. My other laptops without discreet video only manage about 2000 RAC, so 1000 RAC for the 8600M seems about right. MB WU's complete anywhere from 50 to 80 minutes on average.

Here is a link to my machine with a 8400GS when I look and your are welcome to look. It is "effectively" equivalent of a 3rd CPU compared to my AMD X2-6000. It is running the "Lunatics Unified Installer" with the Cuda 2.2 files (that was a manual thing as I have the 185.85 drivers installed).

One thing that is overlooked is the overhead required of the CPU to handle talking to the Cuda Card. This involves RAM, Bus Speed, Number of Stream Processors and the Memory on the card itself. Then if you are matched with another Cuda you Win (no one has attempted to calculate the effective percentage of those credit claims).

Like everything else, everyones mileage varys. The goal is to strike the best balance for producing Science.

Thanks for the info Pappa. I have 2 rigs with 8400GS & 2 with 9500GT. Have downloaded all drivers, so will give cuda another try.

Only problem is that I've registered with Lunatics, but cannot seem to download the unified installer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Nice Pappa, indeed that software from lunatics save me SO much time babysitting my rigs....im even considering to have a life now, while my rac does increased :)
About the 8xxx cards, i think there is a good difference in performance between them, as my 8400M have an estimated 5GFLOPS, while the 8600GT have 14GFLOPS, and my 9600GT 38GFLOPS.
Whats the estimated on your 8400GS?

This is odd, I would suggest that you post to the Windows Forum with question.
The download link has been posted a couple of times by various people.
Windows Seti@Home apps. Please note that there is a planned upgrade to the Unified Installer.

Thanks Pappa. Second link did the trick. Did post but as soon as I seen the link downloading file, deleted it. Thanks again, appreciated.

I only use xp, but if i remember correctly you can't use CUDA, if using service mode on Vista.

Thanks. Looking through the threads, I realised that, so reinstalled boinc & gpu now recognised.

Keeping fingers crossed it works better than my last attempt.

@Firehawk - Yes all drivers up to date.

OK, set S@H to allow new tasks & d/l'ed quite a few. Can only see cpu running, so how do I know that the gpu is crunching?

Check how many tasks are running and you should also see some of them marked as 6.03 on your CPUs and 6.08 on your Cuda

I can't see any tasks in flight on any of your machines that show as having a GPU?

[edit]Are any in the Boinc Manager list marked as 6.08 (CUDA)?[/edit]

Make sure "Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available" is checked in your Setiathome preferences.

Done. However, on checking now, no tasks running - all tasks saying ready to start except one & this one is saying waiting to run (0.04 cpu. 1 cuda).

20/05/2009 19:31:53 SETI@home Starting task 22fe09ac.10489.18886.10.8.199_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 608

I take it that this is 6.08? If so, why aren't the cpu's running?

Using the Unified installer, does that set up the app_info.xml file or does it have to be amended?
