My 64bit quad-core system has been processing astropulse v5 tasks and I have not been getting credit after 100's of hours of processing time. What gives? I am running Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit.

If you mean WU 440149401 ap_03ap09aa_B0_P0_00178_20090505_31967.wu the first wingman had an error. It was sent to another user on the 10 May. You have to wait for his result to be returned and checked for validation. Astropulse have a 30 day deadline so how long it will takes depends on fast that user returns the work and whether his result is valid.

Before you ask :)... Since you have completed the WU it will just sit in pending until a second person completes it successfully. You will not lose the credit unless something very strange happens to the rest of your wingmen. It takes a lot of mistakes to happen before you could lose the credit.
