What is everybody's favourite SETI themed Science Fiction novel?

Mine is "Encounter with Tiber" by Buzz Aldrin and John Barnes, followed closely by Contact.

I have to go with 'CONTACT' by Carl S. Written, gee what has it been, 25-30 yrs. ago, and it still holds the standard, in my book.

Hey, klc, ya beat me to it! It's still an amazing novel--I've read it like 4 times so far. (I so need to buy new books for my bookshelf! LOL)

Yea, I know what you mean. I've read it 2 or three,(can't even remember) times, but it's been awhile. Now look what you've done! I'll be digging it out right after the hockey game!

And also, hello and welcome to James Stephenson.

Recall not Earth by C.C. MacApp

Recall not Earth wrote:

Mercenaries of the Galaxies.
All life on Earth had been destroyed in a quick and easy kill by the great and ruthless intergalactic Vulmot Empire. Only an elite group of spacemen survived the holocaust. The last earthlings, they were scattered wanderers through the galaxies, hiring out their fighting skills to whatever power needed them, yearly growing more bitter, dissolute, desparing.
By now the pitiful remnants of the Space Corps lacked even the will to fight - until a tantalizing promise from an enslaved race made them assemble one last time, for a mission only men with nothing to lose would attempt, for a final battle only desperate courage could win...

Contact has to be my favorite.

Another favorite where a non human intelligence was found is "The adolescence of P1". Sorry, I don't remember the author.

Contact obviously a favourite here. I have read twice myself.

One of the things I like about "Encounter with Tiber" is that it is written from the human point of view and the alien point of view as well. There are also some great scientific explanations. Quite a bit of effort was spent in consulting different scientific authorities to make sure the science was accurate in the story. I guess you can expect that coming from an ex-astronaut.

I have the hardback edition & thought that it was an excellent read - shame there wasn't a sequel.

. . . [meant to mention - Thanks Joker for the referral - baCk awhile]

That 'quote' above is slightly mis-leading [in essence] - the most interestin' [imho] begins with Chapter 20 [regarding Time] and iT is a most interestin' read right till the end Chapter [24] . . . Thanks again

Another good read, But only only problem, They never met the builders of RAMA, Kind of left a few questions unanswered really.

Would you accept 'Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy' by Douglas Adams in this list?

Read those too, Plus some of Docs others works, Like the ones falling under the Skylark series of Books. As to Tellurian, I'm from Earth, So Earthling seems to fit better, but that's cause terra I think is Latin for Earth.
