I'm currently running Ubuntu 8.10 and have just installed BOINC in hopes to continue my work. In Windows it always worked fine, but I'm getting problems on Linux. BOINC manager/client was installed via Synaptic package manager for one reason - when attempting to download and install from the website, the file can only be open in Wine and my Wine doesn't work 99% of the time. So I installed it via Synaptic, opened it, noticed a message that there is a newer version on the website (sighed and ignored it due to Wine problem) and then noticed the error message in BOINC when attempting to download new tasks: Error-Communication deferred. I don't know whether this has anything to do with running an old version of BOINC or some other issue is at hand. No idea how to fix it, seeing how Wine doesn't work (never has) in order to install a newer version of the manager, or how to fix it if it doesn't have anything to do with that. Any help appreciated. Hi Dessa, The Linux distribution version 6.6.36 can be downloaded from the following url http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Its down towards the middle of the page... If this does not resolve or you need any more help just post it here. Warning!!!! 6.6.36 doesnt play well with Linux. I spent an evening pounding my head on the desk as BOINC failed to install and load properly. stick with the 6.4.5 In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
