When I was brought up my parents had their own business and always told me that would make me free. I bought the house next door years ago and have since taken over the family business. We live in an area that has become Apartments and small business's on a 4 lane street that is one of the main ways into town. My parents had their business on their property since 1973 and a couple years ago the City tried to push us out by saying we grew too much and exceded our zone. I fought and won and they changed our zone to RC2 which is the same as everyone down the street.
Now I am trying to open a new business on my property next door and the City has no problem with my business or the building I want to build but tells me I have to move off my property in order to do this. Where do they get off telling me I can't live at the property I work? This used to be a good neighborhood but then the city decided this was where they would put all the apartments and it went down quick. I want to hire 6 people and we need jobs around here. I feel it is part of my American dream to be able to have a piece of property to live on and have a business, if we were in a mall we would have been Bankrupt years ago. We sell candle making supplies, mostly FedEx and I want to start a Doggy Daycare which is legal for my zone. Just not with me in it, My mother does live next door with the candle supply business and it works great.
Any Opinions or good places to start my fight against the City?

I wouldn't bring up the point that your mother lives where the candle making business is, you may accidently get her evicted.

And from what I have seen around where I live, if you make too big a stink, the city will just condemn your property and take it for themselves.

I fought thru the City Council a few years ago and got her GrandFathered in because she was in the County and was legal before we became a city. Now they say that doesn't apply to me and that if I combine my Properties they could take that away. Here is a google map of our area and we surely won't hurt the area now....
