What kind of email do you use?

Do you use a program on your computer like Outlook Express or ThunderBird to check you email?

Or do you browse your email on the web?

I started using hotmail several years ago. Hotmail can only be accessed on the web, you can't use Outlook or ThunderBird to retrieve your mail into your computer. Its also covered from head to toe in very annoying advertising.

But i also use Gmail, i browse this on the web through my browser. But i believe you can use email programs with Gmail to retrieve your mail into your computer?

I also have other email address's from my own domains like paddysinspace.com and unitedboinc.com and i have a choice to view the email on the web or with a program like Outlook. I use Outlook, but i don't particularly like it, but its better than the web software i have (Horde or Squirrel Mail).

I'm just wondering what other people use.

John.

I use my ISP's webmail or gmail.

How do you find it, easy to use? Do you like Gmail? Do you use a web browser to view your ISP's mail?

I use my ISP's mail system, Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo mail.

@Johnny, you can use the Windows Live Mail application to retrieve your Hotmail like you used to be able to do with Outlook Express.

I use my Windows Mail. I have a shortcut right on my desktop, and it has a multitude of features. I have it redirected from verizon.
Probably won't apply to most of you out there, but I had to chime in and sing the praises of Windows Mail.

My primary and public email account is thur one of my former ISP's. I keep it because, well like I said it is a public address, known to hundreds of people. My private address is thur my web hosting service. I use outlook to open and check all of them at once.

I thought it stood for "eh mail" as in "eh! Wake up! You got mail, Dummy!"

I use hotmail and gmail. Both accessed through FF or IE7.

I prefer gmail because there are no ads but all my BOINC stuff is through my hotmail addy so I do quite a bit of time peering around adverts.

Perhaps a more interesting, does anyone still use snail-mail?

Now and then, Kenzie. The law society expects a full annual report from me every year, so I use snail mail for that. When I think of the fact that the country's most hawkish union members belong to Canada Post, I can bet you that hard time or not, there haven't been any staff cutbacks.

It's still nice to receive "real" (ie paper) Christmas cards. :]]

Yes!!! True dat!

I love my gmail, I've used it since it came out. Best of all, I like they way it puts your correspondence with someone in a chain of links.

But two things with gmail I found out you've got to be careful about. One is: if you forward a letter, remember that the whole chain of your previous letters and the replies will go out on the forward too. That's not always what you want to have happen.

Also, if your mail has been real busy, you may miss the occasional letter in reply to one of yours because the latest "new" response may not stand out enough that you know it's there. You've got to watch those long chains (and often they are waaay down on the list, because that's where the original letter started).

Other than that, you gotta love that gmail. :]]

I use only web-EMail.

For example:
web dot de
gmx dot de

[They belong together]

They have virus protection included.

Better as download all attachments to your PC.. ;-)
Of course - you could adjust OutlookExpress.. but better to be safe as looking confused if something happen what you don't like.. ;-D

I agree that Germany has some of the best downloading companies in the world. I have a year premium subscription to rapidshare.com that I'm very happy with for downloading.

Call me old fashioned, but I still use Outlook. Mostly because many of my clients use the Calendar and meetings functions for their whole office, and let me share info with them. Just got used to it over the years, and can't bother to change.

I keep reading about all these horrible things that happen with Outlook, but a good firewall seems to do the job. (Touch wood.)

What kind of email do you use?

Web-based.

Nope. I used to use OE years ago. Even that isn't set up on my current system.

Or do you browse your email on the web?

Yes. I use Gmail. They have great spam protection.

I have my own mailserver/webserver and use Openwebmail. It's great for me as it means unlimited storage and I can access all of my email from any machine. As I do a lot of travelling for work it's an ideal set up and only costs me the electricity to run the server at home.
