The H1N1 virus has gotten to 900 people now according to CNN.

There's a funny thing about all these pictures of people wearing masks - I haven't seen one person wearing a mask yet, anywhere!

It is a bit of a fetish for some Asian people. In Vancouver, where we have a large Chinese population, people wear masks all the time.

Especially elderly folks who haven't become westernized.

Crazy, But their only hurting themselves, As once the masks are moist from ones own breath, Their not worth much.

So I guess that the answer to this thread’s question has been answered. LOL.

The sad part is that the media, in it’s quest for ever increasing ratings, has become the boy who cried wolf one to many times.

In my opinion the media should just tell the news. Not try to sell an agenda.

Not exactly Epidemic or Pandemic, but the swine flu is still around in the UK.

First UK swine flu critical case
Swine flu test
There are 65 confirmed cases of swine flu in Scotland

A Scottish man is the first person in the UK to become critically ill wholly because of swine flu, it has emerged.

The 45-year old from Paisley is one of two new critical cases being treated in intensive care at the Royal Alexandra in Renfrewshire.

The other is a 38-year-old woman who has underlying health problems.

A 37-year-old man, also with underlying health problems, remains in a critical condition in a Glasgow hospital. There are now 65 swine flu cases in Scotland.

The Scottish Government said it expected the number of confirmed cases to increase significantly in the coming weeks.

Seems there are small outbreaks here and there that close down schools or community centres then clear up. It hasn't managed to get a hold yet in a big way, but maybe when the cooler, damp weather arrives it will - as any Flu bug does!

I still don't believe this is anything out of the ordinary, it's just a flu bug at the moment.

And in the US on the average about 36,000 people die from the flu every year and there are about 300,000,000 million people in the USA, 36,000 isn't very much as the birthrate I suspect is larger than that.

Oh and yes I hope anyone who has the flu can survive It, I really do.

36,000 is a very low number compared to the UK (we "only" have 60 million people in the UK). We also have a damp, cold climate that supports the spread of Flu.

Just found these figures:

"there were an estimated 13,000 deaths in 1993 which were attributable to 'flu and 29,000 in 1989/90."

Can be as low as 4 or 5 thousand some years though.

Whatever figure you look at, Swine flu is still a complete non story.

The WHO (World Health Organization) declared the global swine flu outbreak.

And 'activated' the highest alarm.
