Don't take it too easy..

AFAIK, you can get it from humans now like a 'normally' influenza..

Stay at home and enjoy your holidays in healty environment. :-)

Make BBQ and enjoy the sun at your terrace or in garden.

But that's precisely WHY I want to travel to America, to enjoy the Sun, 'cause we sure as hell don't get the weather for BBQs and sitting on Sun Terraces in the UK very often! Besides, as the Flu is confirmed to be in the UK anyway now, whether I stay here or got to the US, neither is "healthy" right?

I'll take my chances. At the moment I've got more chance of the plane dropping out of the sky on the way to the US than I have of catching flu when I get there.

Yeah, I think You coming here would be ok, So few cases and so much space, the chances of coming across a person with this swine flu, Would I think be pretty low.

Ahh.. yes.. your are from UK.. all the time an umbrella with you? ;-)

If you go with airplane.. I think so - because with ship it's too far.. ;-) ..so you get in contact with lot of people.. take distance to persons which come from Mexico..
Or take a nose/mouth protection - it's looking 'crazy' but maybe it would help?
If you have 'good luck' - only one airflow from nose [sneezing] or mouth [coughing] of an infected person.. and you got it..
AFAIK - [I followed not big the news] there are medicine.. but they would help? For example: "Tamiflu"

Yes - like Mike said - now and in future maybe we get more mutated virus..
Not a war will kill us.. little "animals".. ;-)

BTW. I don't like airplanes.. *afraid* ..I travel only so far as my car can go.. ;-)

World wide this flu is currently only affection people in the 20-40 year old range. In the US it seems to be limited to college students who were in Cancun for spring break. So the answer is stay away from college students.

Umm, not sure where you got this info from--age ranges of the ones infected in the US are from 9 years old up to over 50 years old who have visited several areas in Mexico--not just from college students back from spring break after being in Cancun...

@Andy--Here is some info specifically for travelers. It's from the Center for Disease Control, so it will have actual accurate and up-to-date info for those thinking of traveling abroad. Hope it helps!

Its advised not to take Tamiflu unless one actually gets the flu, Why? To keep the flu from getting resistant to It, As Tamiflu can't help You If one isn't sick already and We don't want a super flu bug, Now do We?

Ah yes, Lookie at what I found Here, It does have a link to the swine flu in the story in this story about the Dinosaur Extinction. As flu outbreaks are or could be considered small extinctions among a population.

Although so far Cavemen knew what the ultimate weapon was and It wasn't a Nuclear Weapon, It was rocks, The larger the better. ;)

In Spain so far only two cases are confirmed and both are students that were in Mexico recently.
The first one is getting better and will be back home soon and the second one is not under risk anymore.
Though, there are some other possible cases, up to 28, which are not yet confirmed.

Travel agencies must give you full refund of your payments in case you booked to a endangered destination like Mexico.
This is of course a theory. I am not sure if it really happens. We will see in the next days what´s going on.
Usually people are reluctant when refunding money.

The media will hype it up as much as they did SARS. Watch for the Darth Vader masks to come out soon.

Not quite sure what you mean there. I live a few hours drive from where most of the 44 Canadian SARS deaths occurred. Doesn't feel much like hype when you are watching the daily body count come in from just down the road, and wondering if/when/where it will stop.

I suspect that this current flu thing will be like SARS in the sense that it will be very local, both geographically and demographically, to start with. Like SARS, though, it is worth watching because a small mutation in the virus could turn this into the next Big One.

Also, like SARS, it is more likely to claim victims that are already weakened, due to age, other medical conditions, etc. That means that the level of precautions you need to take very much depends on the individual.

I didn't said, that you can take the medicine for precaution. I meant only if you have the flu..

EDIT:
BTW.
In germany you can't buy this medicine. A doctor must give you a 'pharmaceutical prescription'..

Tamiflu does need a perscription in the US. Think I am going to buy a few shares in the maker of the drug. Just a hunch but I think thier prices might just go up a bit.

A Worldwide Swine Flu Cases map from Google Maps to get you really nervous.

I had actually hoped to find a useful map, but I see the mapmaker has double and triple posted his points and is posting points for people who just have any kind of flu and not the type A H1N1 flu.

This is of course exactly what the media will do in their never ending quest to be more yellow than the next guy to grab a few more readers.

Type A flu's aren't to be taken lightly, no flu is, but it isn't the end of the world. However if the doctors are pressed to start handing out drugs to people who aren't sick then it may well become that next year when it has become drug resistant. Who can I sue in the media for overstimulating the populace?
