Just restarted doing WU's and 80% of them are failing
to initialize. It gets to optimizing stage and fails
to go to baseline smoothing, won't begin work on the
unit. I have NEVER had this problem before, what has
happened to the program?

You didn't restart doing WUs, you started aborting them ;-)

But indeed, only one single task ended with "Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)".

you are having this:
Unhandled Exception Record -
Reason: Breakpoint Encountered (0x80000003) at address 0x7C901230

M$ support page talking about your error

in this case it looks like "aborted by user" means his local PC couldnt process the WU and killed it.
