http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=426322141

This work unit seems have timed out for one user, and been re-issued to my machine. While I was crunching the original user returned a valid result (late) and recieved credit.

I then return a presumably valid result after 3 days, and get zero credit??

I know it's not a big deal, and i'm not going to throw all my toys out of the AP sandpit over it, but I was of the understanding that all three crunchers got credits in this situation.

Hi,
I could be wrong, but it seems very similar to a possible bug reported in this thread if I remember the particulars about what was discussed.

It is indeed exactly the same issue. I never did hear back from anyone except Joe Segur who is trying to help but can in fact only send email.

Obviously the problem has not been fixed.

John McLeod VII does indeed know how the BOINC system is designed to work, he has made many contributions. But he has more faith it is actually working as designed than I do. It usually does, but like any other system undergoing rapid updates bugs creep in from time to time.

My suspicion is that file deletion is sometimes happening when the canonical result is chosen, even if there is still an "In progress" task on another host for that WU. Then when that last result appears there's nothing to check it against. There could be other possible reasons. There have certainly been too many cases to be blamed on pure coincidence.
