I look forward to Matt’s next Technical News update: I suspect he’ll have an interesting story to tell. Good job. :) Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein |

I look forward to Matt’s next Technical News update: I suspect he’ll have an interesting story to tell. And if he needs any encouragement to tell the stories, these are still waiting for him: Cheers! Congrats on a job well done, and thanks for the dedication to work on a Sunday. |

I´m a little disapointed. It seems to me negative messages are more frequented these days. When i look into the panic mode on thread. Is it so hard to say thank you? With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I tend to say 'thank you' (as I just did) in a 'thank you' thread, and 'PANIC!' (with tongue firmly in cheek) in the 'panic' threads. It's called being on topic. |

I noticed a large dose of negativity ever since Matt posted speculation on a drop of active participants, people have been running wild with it, and taking every opportunity to sound their own respective trumpets, ready to declare their views correct and less active users is the definitive proof of their absoluteness. It seems people never get tired of kicking a dog when its down. It would also seem that Matt is the glue that holds the servers together. He gets sick and the servers fall apart. |

I'll kick in my thanks as well! "Life is a tragedy for those who feel, and a comedy for those who think." "I never get into an argument that I cannot win." |

I know how hard it can be to keep servers up and running. And i think the crew here is doing a damn good job if we realize what manpower is available. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I´m a little disapointed. It is human nature, one "oh shoot" seems to erase an infinite number of attaboys. It is far easier to criticize because a small staff working on a minimum budget can't duplicate the availability and uptime of Amazon or Google. I am impressed that an 8/5 staff cares enough to try a recovery like this outside business hours, and I'm impressed with the kind of uptime they get on such a limited budget. I'm also impressed because outside of the forums, the events were barely noticable. The one machine here that could have picked up some SETI work grabbed SETI Beta instead, and BOINC will pay back that debt later. BOINC isn't perfect, but it works well enough that the real "driver" for uptime is user-perception, not what the project actually needs to work. Good job to those working (extra) on the weekend, and thanks to the BOINC team for doing their part as well. |

O.K. - here my "Thanx".. :-) In past there were soo much unplanned outages that it's now normally that the Admins need to 'kick' the servers.. It would be easier for Berkeley to have well servers. They need to work with the 68000-CPUs.. ohh.. not well equipment.. ..no of course not.. but it's looking like.. ;-) If they would have better equipment they could take the time for the science and not for to 'caress' the servers.. It's really a great pity that SETI@home (for me one of the important human science) get no money from the government or similar. I'm very curious about what's in Area51.. If they have really there the UFO.. ;-) And if they have there the technology of ET.. For this they have money.. OTOH.. if - the government don't need SETI@home - they know that ET exist.. ;-) |
