Hi all crunchers, since in 1 of my crunchers, a q6600;stock;VISTA32;optimized app.'s for MB & AP (Thanks, Raistmer, J.W.Segur, J.Whale and Gason.Geeh ?)

Since in my stock QUAD Q6600;VISTA 32bit, there's 8500GT, thought, I 'll test it on GPU-grid.
Since there WU's are about a 100 hours, NOT MUCH of a test :( Estimated 5000MFLOPS.

This card is CLEARLY NOT strong/powerfull enough, (probably) also NOT for SETI tasks

They should 8600 take at the least capable!

When I measure my X9650 (3.73GHz), it's 3.8GFLOPS per core and SSSE3x, 40GFOPS per CPU (4xcores).

I'll test an 9800GTX and expect at least 10GFLOPS, otherwise, I'll be better off, switching a Q 6600 to a Q(X) 9650 CPU!!!

[OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC OFF TOPIC]In the forums from Leiden Classsical, my post with a link to the faulty WU's, whereacted on as SPAM!
Rediculous, I'll be of soon, if such normal thing are considered SPAM ![/b]

you should get more than 10GFlops on an 9800GTX i have two 9600 gt and i get 37 GFlops on each of those cards

Yep, Ditto, Works like a charm after one gets the app_info file the way It needs to be for what one wants to do in Seti.

Of course only one core is crunching as I get computation errors even at stock speed with both cores and that still happened with the fan at full speed too. With one core I don't have a problem doing cuda.

my p3 700 takes days to process an astropulse wu. this is clearly not strong enough to do anything usefull and should be banned. an e6750 should be the minimum requirements...........

/sarcasm off

the 8500gt should average around 2.5 hours per mb workunit. since its essentially the same card as a 8400gs with a wider memory bus.

why would any project turn away a processor ( cpu or gpu) that can complete a wu before the deadline expires. sure the 8500gt is junk but those 10 wu's per day on seti are 10 more than they'ld complete if they banned the card.

gpugrid already says they dont like the 8500gt in thier recommended gpu list. but why ban it if it can complete the wu in less than thier 5 day deadline.
as for the 9800gtx+ its ~11 hours per 3k gpugrid wu. and 15 minutes per seti mb wu.

My 8500GT might be "junk" but it adds almost a core and a half to my Celeron E1400 C2D. It works just fine for me.

yup. thats why i keep my 8400gs around. 10 more WUs/day are better than 0.

My 8800GTX works great, I do a MB in @15 minutes or less. Basically the same through put as my QX6700 per hour ( 4 cores @1 WU/hr each on average ). Now my QX does just AP and life is good!

Um yah, the 8500GT is a bit week.. and so is the 8400GS.

The guys are right though, why ban them if they are still producing valid results within the time frame allowed? Heck my 8500GT took a Q6600 from ~4400 RAC to ~5900 RAC within 3 weeks. Easy and cheap upgrade.

Occasionally I run one of my machine with a 9400GT, which takes about 50 minutes to complete 1 WU. It is also on "not recommended" for GPU GRID. As for SETI it is perfectly capable even for an occasionally on machine.

As for the faster cards, well, it seems like a good time to actually rework the MB workunits to make it larger. It wont help on the S@H bandwidth but should at least make the task list more managable and hopefully reduce some client-side overhead for managing a long task list.

Hi, still waiting for my 9800GTX card, the 8500GT, on my daily driver/host is just NOT suited, cause of the slow monitor-response.
And, not a good test-case, so I'll try SETI-CUDA, afterall :)

I'll put it on a host, used for crunching only .
[OFF TOPIC]
It took 128 hours for a GPUgrid WU

And it looks like summer, on this side of the pond, yesterday it ws 24C and now it's 19C, crazy . . .But nice .

Too bad it ended with all those electric storms. I've seen some flashes resembling nuclear tests, with the thunder shaking about everything here in the flat. A little less, please!
