Politics trumps financial responisibility to taxpayers again?

Quotation from article

"Fast forward to today, and that same bank is begging to give the money back. The chairman offers to write a check, now, with interest. He's been sitting on the cash for months and has felt the dead hand of government threatening to run his business and dictate pay scales. He sees the writing on the wall and he wants out. But the Obama team says no, since unlike the smaller banks that gave their TARP money back, this bank is far more prominent. The bank has also been threatened with "adverse" consequences if its chairman persists. That's politics talking, not economics."

I'm so glad the new owners of the WSJ haven't influenced that reputable paper. Slinging mud and making wild accusations about gov't controlling banks. Guess what. The banks are already controlled by the gov't. Ever here of the FDIC and the SEC or the Treasury and Federal reserve bank the fed controls the banks and attempts to prevent them from screwing themselves and others in the process.

I have to assume that the Fiscal stability test that was put forth to determine bank solubility was not passed by some banks and they are raising a stink. True taking the bailout money looks bad and makes the public less sure of a bank. Is it our fault that they screwed the pooch? No.
