On the NASA site I've read the tribute to Walter Cronkite by Neil Armstrong, who is not taking any part in the celebrations, led by Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
Tullio

If you wonder about Neil Armstrong's participation in things, you really should read what he says in his biography.

... and he generally does participate in public events for anniversaries, and he generally does not participate in anything one-on-one.

We forget that we aren't the only nation to land on the moon, and that we aren't the only nation to return samples from the lunar surface.

How many countries in the world are organising the neccessary food and drink supliments that will be sufficient for astonaught's to stay in space longer with stronger bones that will not be effected with difficiencies because of micro gravity environments?

Many more countries could be interested to travel in space then...

Not that I recall. They were in the race to get there, but dropped out when we got there. The USSR was first in space, and did many orbital flights, but no moon landings with humans aboard that I know about. The USSR did land (crash) some unmanned probes on the moon.

Where did you get the information that the USSR had landed a human on the moon?

The Soviet program successfully landed, and returned samples, but was not manned.

Luna 16 was the first of three.

This should help bring back some memories. The USSR never left earth orbit because they had to much trouble with the hardware. History

That would be the manned program, not the unmanned program. The the USSR unmanned program did indeed get to the moon.

OK, we agree.

The USSR manned program never made it to the moon.

The USSR unmanned program was much more successful and did make it to the moon. I had forgotten about the unmanned sample return mission.
