So is this spring break week at Berkeley? Any chance this is being worked on today, or will we be looking at another long weekend outage?

As for the outage, thumper crashed last night - still unsure why (heavy informix load? bad root disk drive? both?). Eric was the only one at the lab and fought with it for a while. Then around midnight I caught wind of the situation and was able to log in remotely via the network kvm and reboot the thing to a state where the OS finally came up, but all the RAIDs had to resync. Jeff wakes up super early and saw all the messages from me/Eric and took it from there. I'm about to head to a gig in Carmel so it'll be all Jeff today (with help from Eric/Bob perhaps) coaching it back into shape. They're on it! http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=52633&nowrap=true#877499 ____________ PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC

So is this spring break week at Berkeley? Any chance this is being worked on today, or will we be looking at another long weekend outage? It really doesn't matter if my PC's can't connect every damned day. I have a good cache to last me through this too. Even if they all run dry, what does it matter? /me think people take this too seriously really.

So is this spring break week at Berkeley? Any chance this is being worked on today, or will we be looking at another long weekend outage? I believe the "Panic Mode On" thread has always been viewed a little "tongue in cheek" and a place people can come an have a light hearted moan. As for me if I run out of work I switch em off!! So is this spring break week at Berkeley? Any chance this is being worked on today, or will we be looking at another long weekend outage? Well it might have been meant as "tongue in cheek", but the resent outages seems to have made some people complain in more serious ways, almost as if they don't have a life outside of SETI. As for me, I agree with you, if my computers run dry, and I happen to notice it. I simply shut them down. I may even forget to turn them on again for a week. That's as serious as I am about my "stats" :-)

/quote] almost as if they don't have a life outside of SETI.
That's a bit harsh, and patronising isn't it. /quote] We seem to forget We donate spare cpu cycle to SETI to do with as THEY please and they arent running an online game server for our amusement........
Exactly. | |

I cruch because the machine is on, it's nice if Boinc behaves, if not , then so be it. The point is that I crunch out of good will; so do many others I suspect.

No need for making judgemental statements here...as for me, I work hard, play hard, and use my spare time (and spare CPU cycles, heh) hard. It's just the way I am. :)

If Seti@home runs out of work, then fine no big whoop!! Hopefully this will be sorted before my 10 day cache runs out. Got 8 AP's do to currently + 60 CUDA scans. More than likely it will be fixed before i run dry.

We seem to forget We donate spare cpu cycle to SETI to do with as THEY please and they arent running an online game server for our amusement........ I've never heard the staff saying that in this way. It would have sounded pretty arrogant, wouldn't it. Besides, if the staff would have had this opinion, they would't have invented the credit system. The credits, the stats, the optimized apps, it all keeps one involved. I've never understood the guys who install BOINC, attach to Seti and then just never look after it anymore.

I look at it at times, but I'm not obsessed with the credits and other stats. After all, this is about finding ET isn't it? Not about gaining some digital worthless credit score.

I look at it at times, but I'm not obsessed with the credits and other stats. After all, this is about finding ET isn't it? Not about gaining some digital worthless credit score. The more we get our credit numbers up, the faster we are to the ultimate goal. I don't see how anyone can separate the two. :) ____________ "Life is a tragedy for those who feel, and a comedy for those who think." "I never get into an argument that I cannot win."

I don't see how anyone can separate the two. :) Hey, they haven't even started analyzing any results returned for a decade yet. I believe that's what the Near Time Persistency Checker (NTPCKR), is supposed to do, when it comes online So, I can't say I agree with you on what you say there. There's already tons of data to check with NTPCKR.
