I'm using Debian and I can get boinc up and running and everything seems ok, but when I go into advanced view, Tasks, and click Show Graphics, nothing happens. If I start boincmgr in a terminal, the message that pops up when I click Show Graphics is:

execv: Permission denied

This happens whether I log in as a user or root. Any ideas?

Your computer list shows that you detached from Seti. Is this correct? Or did you reattach in the mean time?

If this is on the Astropulse task, I am not sure if there is a graphics app for AP on Linux.

I'm not sure why it says detached, prolly because I have that computer shut down, or maybe it got detached/reattached one of the times that I had uninstalled and re-installed boinc.

I've tried the bundled version and the download version, and I read a thread about removing some of the seti config files so it would update to the newest version, etc..

I believe the last one it ran was the Astropulse one, but I've had both the AP and the Enhanced version running. They both give the same permission denied error.

I'm thinking it's more of a file permissions error, even though running it under root gives the same results. Maybe the video device has it's own permission set somewhere or something? I dunno. Googling "exec: permission denied" brings up some obscure stuff but nothing that seems to relate to what I'm having.

Try asking on the Debian or Ubuntu forums?

A wild guess is that you may have stumbled into "xhost" being turned off or otherwise disabled.

Hello. I also use Ubuntu, and I am having the same problem. I have played with xhost and enable all non-network access. Only local: still not working.

Other problem I am having is that when I boot, the boinc-client starts, but when I launch the manager, it can't connect to the running client. I need to stop the client and then run the manager. How do I get the manager to connect to a running client?

The BOINC client and BOINC Manager talk to each other through RPCs over port 31416. Make sure that you allowed these separate parts of BOINC through your firewall.

The BOINC client will also need to go through your firewall on port 80 and 443 for internet connections.

I think they must be started from the same directory or the correct links must be installed and the access rights for gui_rpc_auth.cfg and remote_hosts.cfg must be set accordingly.

try:

sudo start boincmgr

also got this error (execv: Permission denied) when clicking "Show graphics".

FIXED:

chmod +x /var/lib/boinc/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap_graphics_5.03_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu

(using on Gentoo 64bit, path may vary for other distros)
