Is there any way to disable the downloading of astropulse units to specifc computers?

Two of the computers that I am running will almost certainly NEVER finish an astropulse unit within the deadline, since they are often turned off for extended periods. So it is a complete waste of SETI's and my PC's time to download and start astropulse units on those computers.

Yes, set the computers that you don't want to do AP to a different location, ie home, school or work,
then make setiathome preferences for that location to not do AP, make sure you leave the
'If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications?' set to no.
you'll need to click update for the computers to know that their location and preferences have changed.

Yes, you can goto SETI@home preferences and use upto 4 different venues, and you can specify which venue should/should not get Astropulse. Individual computers can be assigned to a venue.

Under your SETI at Home preferences you can set up separate preferences for three different venues. Home, Work, and School. It defaults to Home. If you set the slower machines to one of the other venues you can adjust the preferences for them.

Astropulse - no
If no work for selected applications is available, accept work from other applications? - no

Couple days ago it worked.

There's certainly still something incomplete about the transition from Astropulse to Astropulse_v5

Its still working- at least the reverse version (e.g. AP only). Reason to go AP exclusive (except on CUDA client) is to both reduce the upstream bandwidth required until things settle down and a few good men will be required to clean up also the remaining old Astropulse unit and as wingman for some WUs with already errored out WU

The work I got was Astropulse_v5 (503).

I wish mine would do that. Mine tells me there's no work available for AP500 and gives me 20-40 MBs. I'm still waiting on just one ap503. I just want one.

[edit: figures.. I'm at work and changed he venue for one of the crunchers here, and it picked up two 503s instantly. My main cruncher at home just will not do it.]

[edit2: got it. used remote desktop and allowed new tasks again. requested half a million seconds of work, got two ap503's.]

I made the same observation. The checkbox on the preferences page must still refer to AP 5.0, not to V5...It was a similar way with the server status, it used to only show AP 5.0 as 'ready to send'.

Yup,
3 applications at the moment:
- 'setiathome_enhanced' (MultiBeam 6.03 cpu &/or 6.08 cuda)
- 'astropulse' (astropulse 5.00 tasks only, all resends these days)
- 'Other Applications' (astropulse_v5 5.03 tasks & both other kinds of work too)

So you'll only get AP5.03 if you tick that third box in preferences. To get a 'semi-balanced' mix of all three, you'd need to untick the first two boxes, and tick 'Accept work from other applications'

Not sure if, when they get around to it, astropulse_v5(5.03) will get its own tick box, or inherit the old 'Astropulse' one when that is shut down completely.

I tried unchecking the first two, but instead of saying:

SETI@home Enhanced: yes/no
Astropulse: yes/no
receive for others: yes/no

It collapses those three into "(allow for all applications)" or worded very similarly to that. I seem to have decent luck getting ap503's by doing no MB, yes ap, yes other, and waiting until I have approximately 400,000+ seconds of work in a request.

Yes, that's combination that should give you all three kinds of work, so it collapses into 'all applications'. I've also been getting plenty of AP5.03 just recently, and no MB at all, without changing my settings. Switching on work_fetch_debug , I see there is some kind of backoff with the cuda requests occurring. I'm not sure completely why it has started doing this, or what triggered that backoff. Assuming nothing changed with those options, probably related to congestion post-outage, but that's just a guess.

Thanks, I wondered why all I was getting was 5.0. I had just checked there recently and didn't notice the option, but I'm glad to know it's there now.

On my account, the new 'Astropulse_v5' checkbox was set to 'no' on all venues, although three out of four already had 'Astropulse' set to yes.

Perhaps somebody could check what the value is on an account where none of the 'selected applications' have ever been changed from default? If those are 'no' too, either we're going to lose a lot of crunching power or David is trying to tell us something about Astropulse.....

Seriously, wouldn't a good first default setting be to make it the same as the user's existing Astropulse choice?

All three are checked for a venue which hasn't previously changed project preference settings, so the non-interactive participants will get whatever their hosts can handle.

Seriously, wouldn't a good first default setting be to make it the same as the user's existing Astropulse choice?

I agree in principle, but of course that would involve developing and running a script to adjust each venue for all users.
