What happened is that new tasks are being crunched by the CPU, not GPU. At first, CUDA was the only one running, then I enabled the onboard 8200 and then 2x CUDA tasks would run along with 2x CPU tasks. As the CUDA tasks finished, they were replaced with 6.03 tasks crunching from the CPU only. No more CUDA crunching.
Help?

Hi MP, can you please post the messages from the time you got new CUDA work, while your computer was still running only CPU 6.03 work?

Well, I found out what is happening.

If I have CUDA tasks when enabling the onboard 8200, it will crunch them. However, it won't get new CUDA tasks. If I disable the 8200, I'll get new CUDA tasks, and then turn the 8200 back on to crunch and off again to get more tasks when that's done.

"Hi MP, can you please post the messages from the time you got new CUDA work, while your computer was still running only CPU 6.03 work?"

It will look like any normally operating machine given the disabling of the 8200. It will get the new work, say 1 device found (8600GT), and download them.

The trouble is that some people do not believe it happening automatically. I don't mean you crunching on two nGPUs, I can believe you are toggling about with that for a bit (even though even that shouldn't need to happen, but that may be fixed with the 6.6.x range that comes later on), no what I was on about was that you post part of your log that shows that you are crunching 6.03 on your CPUs and that it downloads 6.08 work and starts doing that, regardless of on how many GPUs it does this.

What you found to the computer to be doing seems to have been possible for a couple of days now. Undocumented, unnoticed, untold about. ;-)

I see. Tell me exactly what you want to see and I'll take several screenshots and post all of it. You want messages and tasks running for all circumstances right?

"no what I was on about was that you post part of your log that shows that you are crunching 6.03 on your CPUs and that it downloads 6.08 work and starts doing that, regardless of on how many GPUs it does this.
"

But that's just it, it won't download 6.08 while crunching 6.03, it will only crunch the 6.08 I already have.

You don't need screenshots. Look at stdoutdae.txt!

But that's just it, it won't download 6.08 while crunching 6.03, it will only crunch the 6.08 I already have.

You say it'll only do that when you have both your GPUs doing the work, no?

If I have CUDA tasks when enabling the onboard 8200, it will crunch them. However, it won't get new CUDA tasks. If I disable the 8200, I'll get new CUDA tasks, and then turn the 8200 back on to crunch and off again to get more tasks when that's done.

I take it from that that it will download work for CUDA when you have one GPU ready and willing to crunch, while you are already crunching with the CPUs as well.

So yes, show the excerpts of the old logs from stdoutdae.txt, found in your BOINC Data directory which may be hidden, and post those here for that time when you:
1. Had one GPU set only.
2. Had 6.03 CPU work only and were crunching that.
3. Had 6.08 CUDA work downloaded for that one GPU and started crunching that.

(all 3 as a requirement)

I'm sorry guys, stdoutdae.txt is nowhere on this machine. Not in the boinc directly, and I did a file search on all disks and it turned up nothing.

It'll be in your BOINC Data directory, not in the BOINC directory.

Doesn't exist. There's not even an "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\"

I'll still try to get all of that data anyway, it will just be a bit more challenging and I'll have to abort tasks and reboot etc.

For now, have a look here;

www.525gaming.com/boinc.jpg

Here are the current tasks running. Notice, 6.03 crunching away, and 6.08 on two cards. However, look at the last task, that's the latest download, and it is 6.03. As long as two cards are enabled, I will only get 6.03 tasks.

I'm betting it's hidden.

1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.

2. Click the View tab.

3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

gah... I'm so stupid. Found it. It was hidden like you say.

You want me to find the relevant parts and post here, or post the entire txt file for download?

Post the part of it that shows what you're seeing (and I requested). I don't think we need the whole 2MB file. ;-)

Hi malignantpoodle

I think i am having the same problem as yours, just mine isn't solved yet...

Initially the GPU (9800GT) had some work to do...the status showed something like "accquiring ram", but later boincmgr stopped downloading any work for the gpu...I have made sure gpu computing is enabled in the preferences on the boinc website but it just wont work.

BTW, what's the difference between 6.03 and 6.08?

Thank you very much!!
