I am running Boinc on four PCs here, all SETI work units were less than about 10 hours long and then suddenly one PC downloaded a WU that was estimated to be 180 hours long. It has been struggling away at it for ages and because I took a week's holiday and switched off it now looks like its going to miss the deadline.
Is it possible to have the deadline extended?
Is it possible to limit the size of the work units to something more sensible?

Regards
John.

you've received an astropulse WU and they are large. An optimized app will greatly decrease the work time on Astropulse.

Deadlines are set in stone. Are you going to miss the deadline by much? hours or days? if its only going to miss by a day I'd try and finish it. The reason is that its such a large WU that even if its resent the person may not get it done before you.

Yes and no.
some work can be finished very quickly these are multibeam(MB) the time to complete MB WU's can vary from 20 minutes to 10+ hours depending on what processor you have. Astropulse WU's take much longer than any MB WU

But yes you can stop the astropulses from being downloaded. you need to go to your profile page click on your seti preferences and unclick "astropulse" also make sure the "run other applications..." is also unclicked. With that you won't get anymore Astropulse.

Thanks Skildude, that certainly explains what has happened. I am going to miss the deadline by about 16 hours so I'll leave it running. I have unchecked Astropulse as you suggested so I shouldn't have to leave this box on for days.

John.
