G'Day, on my MacBook Pro I have the strange thing that BOINC tells me to re-install every second time or so (sometimes after every reboot) because of permission problems - I don't have have this problem on my much older G4 PowerBook. Any hints ? Cu |

It appears you are using the stock application. You can get twice the performance out of your Mac using the Alex v8 version. The one here: http://www.arkayn.us/seti/ is a package containing both the AP application and the MB (normal) SETI application. Follow the directions to install the stuff. You'll have to reinstall BOINC after you install the SETI package, but that should set your permissions for the future. I'm using this same package on my MBP and have no problems with it. If you choose not to run the AP (AstroPulse), app, go into your SETI home page, select the SETI preferences, and turn off Astropulse. C Join Team MacNN |

Only do this if you don't want the cool screen saver. I did and discovered it doesn't support graphics. |

You're correct about no screensaver...I primarily run on laptops, so I have my machines set to go to a blank screen after a few minutes of no use, instead of a screensaver. It saves power, and it also allows all the CPU time to be used for the distributed computing - instead of "wasting" CPU cycles on drawing pretty images on the screen... C Join Team MacNN |

My main reason for running SETI is the pretty pictures. I am running on a Mac Pro with 8 cores and plugged into the grid so I don't sweet the small stuff. |
