If I start BOINC while logged in by Remote Desktop, it can't detect the presence of my CUDA capable card, and hence won't attempt to collect work for it. Any workarounds for this?

How did you install Boinc??

I have one computer running and crunching with CUDA. I used Boinc's default installation mode. Start up the computer, wait a few minutes, log in with remote desktop and it's crunching away. I also use Boinc Manager and BoincView to check Boinc on that computer without logging in with remote desktop.

Hope this gets it going.

[edit] Do a google for dummy vga plug as you may find that useful also.

If I start BOINC when sitting at the machine it's fine, it only fails to detect the presence of a CUDA capable card during the remote session.

Do a google for dummy vga plug as you may find that useful also. I will probably make one for my machine.

This will allow the video card to believe a real moniter is installed.

There is a real monitor attached, and the video card has two DVI ports, no DSUB's so it couldn't be used.

Look closely at the photos. They are using the DVI to VGA adapter that comes with the card.

edit......ok see you have a monitor on it. Then I have no idea's that would help.

remote desktop uses a special display/vga driver for sending the images to zoure client. that is whz boinc does not recognize zoure cuda device.

one solution is like Geek@Play mentioned the usage of Boinc View/Manager

other solution would be to use teamviewer hosts and client or VNC in their diferent flavours and mixes

My box is sitting in the corner, no monitor, no keyboard or mouse. Wireless, just sits there and runs.

I installed Boinc with the defaults. From power off, I start the box and leave it alone. Don't touch it again. Boinc starts as verified by useing Boinc Manager or BoincView on another box to remotely connect. I can do anything I want to Boinc remotely using these two apps on the main computer.

I use remote desktop if I have to for maintenance, updates to that box then reboot it. I rarely physically touch the box.

Is your remote desktop using video ram, enough to inhibit CUDA?

Yes, this is the reason. Good news is that VNC software does work.

Interestingly, if you log into your computer conventionally or with VNC and then start boinc, you can log in with remote desktop while boinc is running and that is fine.

I ran into the same problem. Just switched to VNC.

Yes, VNC will work better for your purposes. Did you try to start BOINC daemon as a Windows service?

I already suspected all of the above, but I hoped there was a way that BOINC could be made to still recognise and make use of the CUDA device despite this. VNC means opening more ports on my router though.

If you don't want to open ports on your router, use Teamviewer(www.teamviewer.com), it's free for non commersial use.
