Hmm, A version that can run Seti on my dual core CPU and My Nvidia card at the same time.... That'd be GRRRRREAT!

It is being worked on, but if you hold your breath, you will turn blue and fall over first.

My Wishes
1) That the ability to select/deselect CUDA and AP be setable at the local machine preferences level rather than as a general preference.

2) That somewhere in the system we be given the ability to find out how many credit earning tasks a computer has completed. Either on the stats sites, "Your computers" or a local display in BOINC Manager. It's about the only stat that BOINC doesn't provide.

Thinking along the lines of credits being a bragging right (since they have no other real value), and since workunits provide varying amounts of credit depending on Angle Range, what good would it do to provide how many workunits a computer has completed as it would not be directly proportionate to its granted credits?

It would satisfy my curiosity :-)

Total credit is not the only braggable parameter, the number of units crunched to get that credit is also of interest to some. e.g. My top cruncher has just topped 1.1 Million, dividing this by it's average credit/unit means it has crunched around 40,000 units in the last 10 months. I find that figure more impressive than the credit score as it better reflects the amount I've contributed to the "science" of the project.

But that figure would be wildly inaccurate as it does not take into account all the "shorties" or AstroPulse workunits. Because of this, it in fact does not better reflect the amount you've contributed. In fact, credit gives a much better representation as it is based off of Floating Point Operations per Second, which gives an idea of how much actual computing power you've contributed whereas the number of units completed means precisely nothing to someone who wants to know how much computing power you've donated.

It is not based on Floating Point OPerations per Second, it is based on Total Floating Point OPerations.

Ozz, When comparing cars you look at 3 factors, Top speed, fuel consumption and total distance travelled. Depending on your point of view you will prioritise which of these is the most important. Likewise with SAH crunching, *I* would like to know the total number of units my farm has crunched and I'm not alone. Whether or not you are interested in this parameter is irrelevant. It's just different strokes for different folks.

This debate is way off topic for this thread and this board, if you want to continue it, start a thread in Politics.

You forgot cost. There may be an otherwise perfect car for me that costs a million dollars, but I could not buy that one.

Brode, the topic was brought up here not by me, and I simply offered my viewpoint. That you agree with the person is your right to speak up; that I disagree is my right to speak up, and is completely relevant to me. Telling me that my interest is irrelevant is actually kinda rude.

Further, this isn't necessarily a political rant; its a discussion on a proposed idea, and I simply offered my view, whether you like my view or not is irrelevant.

Hmmm.... sort of like (to use the car metaphor) comparing one car's mileage in Miles Per Gallon with another car's mileage in Furlongs per Acre Foot, only worse, because with enough conversion charts and mathematics, one can convert miles into furlongs and gallons into acre feet. However, one person's or host's Work Units count is not comparable to another person's or host's Work Unit count because the unit of measure (a Work Unit) is not a constant value.

Some Work Units are the 3 gallon size while others are the half-pint size.

Let's throw in another metaphor, that of bragging rights of heavy drinkers.

Let's suppose that one can go to a bar and order a Work Unit of beer.

Now some bars will serve you a 3 gallon Work Unit but others will serve you a half-pint.

So if you told me that you can really hold your beer because last night you drank 2 Work Units, I will still not know how much beer you drank -- any where from a low value of 1 pint (yawn) to the high value of 6 gallons (Holy sh**!).

Closer to Barrel and Gil as a size difference.
