Why software raid? Good question. Answer: No hardware raid!

That's the short answer (and all I have time for as I'm actually not at the lab right now).
When I say we have no money, I mean it. We use what we get generously donated to us
and sometimes have to get creative.

Matt Lebofsky

Well, hell if we donate our PCs why not monetary donation? Where do we send the money for the hardware
RAID?
So how about the rest of you...Will you match my $20?

Matt - Can you provide address?

Can we get a word from Berkeley on this? If this fund raising effort gets the official seal of approval I will be happy to throw in some money!

Can you specify what the donation is for with that credit card thing?

Thank you all for your generosity. Donations of any kind for any amount are always welcome and have kept us going in the lean times between grants (and some really long lean times) during the past decade or so.

Regarding the hardware raid front, we are busy getting what we already have to work for us. For various reasons I can't say what our plans and prospects are, but I can say that we are currently NOT holding an official fund raiser for hardware.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't donate if you still want to. I just don't want to give anybody the wrong idea if they expect their money to go towards something specific right now.

At any rate.. if $30K showed up in our donation box, that would make some decisions around here a LOT easier..

I figured it was about time that I help out my favorite project other then just provide unused CPU cycles. My donation of $50 should be on it's way, earmarked for the Seti@Home BOINC project.

Matt, BOINC/SETI@home might not be holding an offical fund raiser, but the people in this thread(other then Berkeley employees) are holding an unoffical fund raiser. :)

Now that's the spirit, I could not have said that any better myself!!
And yes one can specify on the form where the moneys should go...:)
Well, at least on paper...:)

Now, on the sceptical note, with BOINC 4.09 and SETI 4.05, we are starting to contribute at almost half speed, therefore the servers should only have half the load. (I knew there was a simple fix...)
What's up with that feature? (Perhaps here an "official" answer would be appreciated)

Anyone else want to help out Seti/BOINC by donating during our on going "users ran" fund raiser. :) There are various links in this topic for donating to Berkeley. I know at least the credit card one allows a note to be put in as to what you'd like the donation to be used for.

^^^^^
In other words....BUMP!! :)
