A while back, I decided to try Raistmers' new WU cruncher (to be honest, I don't know much about what it does differently), and my new SETI work units began to come through as only regular units. This was fine, and I went along happily downloading and processing CPU based units, until today.

I opened up BOINC to see 39 extra work units that were all CUDA, and had all 'Download failed.' So, assuming it was just a glitch, I updated BOINC again... it reported the 39, then proceeded to start downloading more units. The downloading of the units seemed to work just fine, but they still say 'Download failed.'

One curious part of this that I found in the messages (saw this twice... once before each cluster of WUs tried to download)

1/20/2009 11:38:26 PM|SETI@home|Started download of setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe
1/20/2009 11:38:40 PM|SETI@home|Finished download of setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe
1/20/2009 11:38:40 PM|SETI@home|[error] Signature verification failed for setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe
1/20/2009 11:38:40 PM|SETI@home|[error] Checksum or signature error for setiathome_6.08_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe

Any ideas how I can fix this? or is BOINC attempting to do CPU and GPU processing for the same project? (I highly doubt this is the case, but still hoping! :D)

Edit:
Also, for now, I have disable CUDA, to try to reduce the number of failed WUs I send back... I am already running about 50 fails today, sorry guys :(

If you run Raistmer's modified application, you won't be downloading Seti 6.08 automatically because of the app_info.xml that's in place. So you must've done something wrong then.

Check in your Data directory (default for WinXP at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\) that you have an app_info.xml file. If you do, check that its extension is .XML only. If you do not, then you never used Raistmer's modified app in the first place.

In the mean time, do know you're not alone with this error, see this thread in Number Crunching.

The computation errors that you're making are due to the science application not downloading correctly due to it missing the correct md5 signature.
