Today is a special day for everyone, because of him.
It is a changeover point of no return. The best thing of all is, it can very unlikely get worse.

I wish him good luck. So I wish it to all U.S. citizens.
P.S. There´s a TV audience record expected today during his (traditional) address to the U.S.

I wonder if Blagojevich has been invited to the inauguration.

This is a day where other Nations can take note. We as a Country vote then elect and accept the elected as our representatives. We the people choose our leaders our leaders do not choose us. When our voice is heard in this country we have succeeded. Let our Nation be the example that Peace and longevity is formed with the understanding that a Nation is no greater than the belief of its people and its peoples belief in it. This is no partisan day. This is a day of celebration. We the people have passed on the torch of responsibility for our Country in a civil and peaceful manner.

Today is a day when one Washington insider and another Washington insider surrounded by lots of other Washington insiders take up the Presidency.

The Status Quo is dead. Long live the status quo.

Such a shame, it's going to take the comedians months to recover from losing Bush.

Grats on Obama though, he seems a step in the right direction for you guys, now we just have to get rid of Brown.

Cynics like Rush and all his bitter ilk can say what they like: what happened yesterday was a truly major event. Certainly I, as one with a longer memory, have not encountered such optimism as was created by the events leading up to yesterday's inauguration since Kennedy. And Kennedy was nowhere near as fine as the character apparent in Obama.

The departure of Bush with his ghastly Myrmidons can only be for the good.

The results may not live up to the expectations but, and this is very important, such an election could not have come about in any other country.

Congratulations to the genius loci of the USA.

I didn't say it wasn't a major event. I said it was just the maintenance of the status quo. Two Washington political insiders took over from two Washington political insiders. That's not cynicism, it's a statement of reality.

Certainly I, as one with a longer memory, have not encountered such optimism as was created by the events leading up to yesterday's inauguration since Kennedy. And Kennedy was nowhere near as fine as the character apparent in Obama.

Call it "optimism," if you wish. I call it naiveté. The federal gov't has not changed. The system has not changed. The process for making laws and imposing them on people has not changed. Obie will stay in Iraq as long as he needs to in order not to be the President that lost the Iraq war. If he closes Gitmo, big deal--he simply will not open the gates and set those people free. He'll use some version of rendition to dispose of them. Net result is the same, but everyone will pat Obie on the back for it.

The departure of Bush with his ghastly Myrmidons can only be for the good.

Meh. The Status Quo is dead. Long live the Status Quo.

The results may not live up to the expectations but...

Of course it won't. His honeymoon will wear off just like everyone else's has. That's why he and his staff have been running around like drunken sailors on shore leave trying to play down the expectations. Sheesh, even if he gets a couple of Supreme Court justices to nominate, he'd just be replacing the same with the same.

...and this is very important, such an election could not have come about in any other country.

I have no idea what this means. Obie won with a difference of about 7 percentage points in the popular vote, about 3 percent of the general population. Meaning that very nearly as many people voted for McCain as they did for Obie. That the press is having paroxysms of hope doesn't mean that accurately reflects much of anything other than their need to garner ratings.
