I have a Q6600 PC with an Nvidea 8600 GT card, running Windows Vista Premium 32 bit. I downloaded and installed the Nvidea driver version 181.20, and in the properties of the driver I see nvcuda.dll present. But BOINC doesn't detect the CUDA device... : 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Starting BOINC client version 6.4.5 for windows_intelx86 17/01/2009 10:20:48||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Libraries: libcurl/7.19.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8i zlib/1.2.3 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Running as a daemon 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Running under account boinc_master 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11] 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 pni mmx 17/01/2009 10:20:48||OS: Microsoft Windows Vista: Home Premium x86 Editon, Service Pack 1, (06.00.6001.00) 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Memory: 3.25 GB physical, 6.69 GB virtual 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Disk: 457.82 GB total, 363.70 GB free 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Local time is UTC +1 hours 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Not using a proxy 17/01/2009 10:20:48||No CUDA devices found 17/01/2009 10:20:48||No coprocessors 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 4455405; location: home; project prefs: default 17/01/2009 10:20:48||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 17-Oct-2007 22:57:26) 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Computer location: home 17/01/2009 10:20:48||General prefs: using separate prefs for home 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Reading preferences override file 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 1663.20MB 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 2993.75MB 17/01/2009 10:20:48||Preferences limit disk usage to 1.00GB 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|Restarting task 01dc08ac.19772.4162.6.8.157_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 528 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|Restarting task 01dc08aa.7713.7434.7.8.99_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 528 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|Restarting task 01dc08aa.7713.8252.7.8.217_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 528 17/01/2009 10:20:48|SETI@home|Restarting task 01dc08aa.7713.11933.7.8.119_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 528 Does somebody know what's going wrong here? OK, in another thread I found out that CUDA doesn't work on Vista if BOINC is installed in protected mode. So it looks like I'm out of luck, and I may forget about CUDA... Greetings, Eric |

Well, do you need to run in protected mode then? There's no way around it? As else you can uninstall and reinstall in 'normal mode'. Even try one of the newer BOINC versions, like 6.6.0 (development version). |

Hello Eric, I've a Q6600 too and run a 8600GT, but I installed the latest driver for NVIDIA for Vista 32bit. If I do, we will see the standard SETI layout with 2 huge white boards on it. I'm thinking to buy me a NVIDIA 260 card soon..:) Hope I helped you some bit. Hi, I'm not the only one who uses that computer... my daughters also use it. And if BOINC isn't installed in protected mode it will only run when I'm logged on with my own account. While running it in protected mode ensures that it's always running, no matter who is logged on (even when noone is logged on...). So I'll stick to "no CUDA"... like this it will do a lot more work. Greetings, Eric |
