Message 854075 - Posted: 16 Jan 2009, 5:04:51 UTC

I've tried to install Raistmer's Modified CUDA App Raistmer's_opt_package_V5a.rar, but after extracting all the files in the BOINC folder, my startup message now says I don't have a CUDA card and it could not load the cudart.dll file

I'm not sure if I did this right or not, but to me it seems that it did not work. What I'm trying to do is figure out how to get my BOINC to download CUDA WU's.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

but after extracting all the files in the BOINC folder

The BOINC folder or the BOINC Data folder?

It looks like you'll need to uninstall BOINC at this point, manually delete any remnants of the C:\Program Files\BOINC\ directory, but leave the BOINC Data directory well alone!!, then reinstall BOINC (try 6.6.0 if you want to) and when it starts up, exit BOINC (BOINC Manager->Advanced view->File->Exit->Stop running of the science applications->OK).

Now navigate to C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\ and put the contents of Raistmer's modified package in there.

Restart BOINC. (Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager)

BOINC folder where you must install the app is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

Install the new driver 181.20.

Out is the new app, try it.

BOINC folder where you must install the app is
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

This directory does not exist on Windows Vista (which Vager is using); it uses C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ instead.

The C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC directory is the default data directory on Windows 2000 and XP only.

It's possible because your CUDA card is a [CUDA|GeForce 8800 GTS|1|320MB] that it may not work with SETI CUDA because it is 1.0 compute capability like the one in this message instead of 1.1 used by the CUDA app. Using the v6 app has helped others to use this card but has not been 100% successfull. If you do not have the latest nVidia driver 181.20 you should try that as already mentioned.

Could you post the start up log in Boinc to verify you have the mod app in the right folder? So far none of the tasks you've given results on have been CUDA from what I could tell.

Edit: message should have been directed to Vager, got the post confused.

My card is a 9600 M GT with the latest nvidia (beta) drivers. A few weeks ago i was running cuda but now it stoped. on the cuda-z app it is saying i am using cuda 1.1. this is getting annoying. i have just tried the new 6.6.0 beta bionic. it still sees the gpu but will not use it

Could you post the start up message log from Boinc Manager and/or unhide your pc so the tasks can be looked at?

Edit: also maybe a link to one or more of the tasks with errors

You need to install the v6 app in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

If you are using the v6 version of the app and it's installed in the correct folder then you need to report this to the Modified SETI MB CUDA + opt AP package for full GPU utilization thread, since at least some of the errors you are having are a common problem with the CUDA app, but was supposed to be fixed with that version. From what I looked at though, you are not using the mod app yet.

Edit: redid path

You need to install the v6 app in ...

I have just installed the app and i am getting computation errors. i will post in the other forum

If the BM is not downloading the cuda-stock-app by itself then its a notice for you that your graphic card is too weak to handle cuda-wu's without complications. Its your own risk if you are installing modded versions which disables the security procedure of the download servers to get cuda-wu's ...

Ok,after you are warned now: Try mod v5b. This version will auto-terminate wu's with very low angle range. This wu's causing the most problems on slower graphic cards. Before doing so and if you have v6 installed set seti to NNT, use the batch-file to locate VLAR wu's and abort them in BM in task-overview. Let BM crunch the other tasks until your task's are all done. Upload them, report them, close BM, install v5b, restart BM, allow new tasks. If you still have problems after this procedure then report back ... we will try to help ;)

Uh, v6 allow you to process VLAR. It's the whole point for the release. Staying with scripts and bat files IMO is not the point of what the mod apps are trying to do. They're trying to build an app that doesn't require anything but the app and at least should be tried over an older app version.

Edit: also Maik, just curious about something, I was under the impression your script was incorporated into the current builds. Am I wrong about that?

It's like Maik and I were saying about the server limiting slower gpu's because they are more prone to errors.

Good question. Try a VLAR and watch him ;)

Edit: I think v6 is a mod version that should handle VLAR's.
I'm shure my script isnt incorporated into this built.
btw. testing a AR: 0.11437283438135, bit laggy but it seems that it will run to 100% without arrors ;)

I've been doing them over at Beta but still haven't had a chance to try the v6 here at main. Going to be a few days before I get the chance. That is if another version doesn't come out before then :)

but after extracting all the files in the BOINC folder

Restart BOINC. (Start->Programs->BOINC->BOINC Manager)

Thank you Ageless, I didn't realize that there was another BOINC folder that contained the data. When I downloaded the Raistmer's opt package, his post didn't give specific details to where it needed to be installed. After reading all the posts below and yours specifically I found the correct location. So after removing the old version 6.4.5 (now running 6.6.0) and having the correct optional files in the right place, BOINC downloaded some CUDA files. The current CUDA file 6.07 looks like so far it's running OK. I am running the latest NVIDIA drivers so lets hope it doesn't crash.

Thanks
