Message 853367 - Posted: 14 Jan 2009, 15:46:56 UTC - in response to Message 853202.

The waiting list is cause Congress only allocated $1.34bn for the coupons and that has all been used up, So until Congress can fix this, Those who don't already have a coupon or two will have to just go on the waiting list or get a box from a cable company or a satellite box instead or buy a converter box without a coupon.

The TV in the living room is hooked up to a cablebox. But the 2 bedroom TVs are directly connected. Those will need one of those converters.

Vouchers for TV converter boxes may be delayed

Think of the coupons as workunits with a 90 day deadline.

If they are connected directly to cable, they will not need converter boxes. Cable is not changing any time soon.

Well if the TV stations are switching to digital the cable companies will have to convert the signal themselves...which would negate the 'need for a cablebox' argument.

Eventually, cable and satellite are going to switch to digital as well, however, they get to do it at their own pace. I bet that they will wait a couple of years till a large number of people have taken the hit of switching to digital anyway.

Actually Satellite is already Digital as It's via Satellite.

Most cable companies have a digital option now too.

REGARDING DTV COUPONS:
GREETINGS VIEWERS
I started this with a message that i thought was very funny because i live in a cosmopolitan part of the country. At the time we thought all the suggested web links in it were a joke.
I really want to apologize if the message upset some people.
In case you want coupons or want to donate yours to individuals or institutions such as shelters, i think you can get 2 per household; they are worth $40 a piece, and are valid for 90 days.

The coupon program is currently out of money, and no coupons are currently being sent out. However, it would be a good idea to get on the list now because more money might become available to the program. This is related to the possible delay in implementation.

I read in the paper this morning that the Senate voted for a delay to digital until June. Now it's up to the House. Things look a bit favorable for the delay.

First a Thank you to M. Belanger about the origin of this message: people who don't need these converter boxes love it!

Here is my latest peace offering to those who want the coupons and need converter boxes; i found this link informative and easy to follow, it even has a trouble shooting guide:

And do know the funny part?

You can purchase the converter box from a retailer such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, or Wal-Mart. You can easily find the store nearest you. Call ahead to make sure a coupon-eligible box is in stock.

They had piles of them at my local Circuit City the other day. Only 15% off an already overpirced unit tho', but that discount did take the price down to just $2 more than Wal-Mart. ;)
