I don't usually check out the "user of the day", but I did today...

How can a user become "user of the day" with total credits=0 and RAC=0?

I guess it's just a random thing and has no meaning!

Can I be the first "Jackass of the Day"? :)

So... is this a valid reason be be "user of the day" in Seti/Boinc?

Just seems that "user of the day" should include things like credits for seti/boinc, but then again, I'm running for the "SNAP sponsored Jackass of the Day" :) (Heck, they didn't sponsor a working DB, so I'll settle for JA of the day!)

The user of the Day is just who gets the votes. It obviously does not have anything to do with time spent, wu's completed or any other Seti@Home dedication.

I believe the random selection of "User of the Day" is really the only logical way to do it. Think about it.... If they went by the credits or number of WUs done, one person would always be "User of the Day". I don't know who that person is, but s/he has left all the rest of us choking on her/his dust. I'll get the info on this person and edit this post. Those of us, such as myself, with only 1 PC to donate crunch time with will never be "User of the Day". 1 PC just does not have the power that a bank of PCs does.

EDIT: I'm back with the info:

#1 - Richard Smith w/79 computers
#2 - Team Jolt Cola w/52 computers

See what I mean? There's no competing against banks of computers of this magnitude!

Question

Would we even have this thread if the UOTD was an older male? mmMMM..Lets be honest, ARGENTUM IS A BABE, Not only is she a babe she's a babe that has a brain!

I have seen many UOTD (mostly male) who have crunched nothing and no puters listed....

So There, Smiling in Vermont

Middle aged male who has not been a UOTD

User of the day should be a person who works for the project (forum, wu's,...).

The 'user of the day' is a random draw of participants with profiles. As far as I know, there has never been any voting that puts someone in that position.

The reason that 0 credit/0 RAC persons show up is that the database includes those participants who were brought over in the Classic snapshot. I imagine that this will be cleared up after the more important features are fixed (e.g., pending credit, etc.)

100% agree, she even didn't send any result for more then a year.
So it's really random select from database.
I really think that there is missing something like instead of
select * from users where id = getrandomid()
something like
select * from users where id = getrandomid() and last > today() - 14_days
If not, then we are "Jackasses" already. ;o)))

I'm going to put a picture of Lucy Liu in my profile so I can be User of the Day too!

They could make user of the day the person who crunched the most that day.... with each person limited to being a user of the day one time only.

Or they could randomise it from the people who had the most time contributed that day from a single machine (so, on most days it would be between all the people who had it running for 24 hours).

Also, who said user of the day has to actually mean anything? its not an award, its more of a community thing.

Bingo. Therefore, it should come from people who are active in the SETI community.

And it is an award, kind of.

There's one major problem with your suggestion above. Consider this:

I run 1 (one) PC 24/7 running SETI.
Richard Smith runs 79 PCs more that likely, 24/7. (Oh, he's the #1 contributer, by the way.)

By your thinking, who is going to be "User of the Day"? Sure as hell ain't me! He'd have to shut down 78 PCs just to give me a running chance at UOTD.

See my post #32479 for my thoughts on how UOTD should, and most likely is being selected.
