I was just looking what my computer is doing for SETI and it was computing with an application called "Astropulse 5.00". It computed already for 68 hours and still had 135 hours to go. I was sure that I could not finish this working unit untill the expiring day and I so canceled it.
Now the computer uses the application "Seti@home Enhanced 6.03" and everything seems to be fine (needing max. 4 hours per working unit).

Is there such a big problem with the Astropulse-software or does it always take so much time? I have an AMD 64 3500+ processor ... it should not be SO slow.

Astropulse work takes about 15 times longer to compute that multi-beam work, if you do not want to crunch them you can deselect that option in your preferences on the website.

Hi,

That is a long time for that type of computer. I've got a 3800+ and it takes about 96 hours or so on the stock application.

There is a known problem that sometimes the AP application for various reasons resets back to 0, and starts again. There are many that believe this is especially a problem on AMD systems with the stock application.

You could try using the Optimized Astropulse 5.00 for Windows . They also have an optimized Multi Beam application that you could also use with it, if you'd like to try.

Both will improve the time it takes to run the tasks.

A caveat needs to be added. The use of optimized application will prevent automatic updates of the science apps. An extra responsibility fall upon the user to follow development on the Seti message board and to stay up to date with any changes to the optimized or the generic application.

Ok. Thanks for answering. I actually switched the astropulse stuff off, but I'll try the optimized version when I've more time and the computer is on longer.

Normally I get about 3 weeks for calculations that take about 4 hours or so ... I don't understand why for the astropulse calculations, that seem to take about 200 hours, we do not get more time ...

AstroPulse workunits have a 1 month deadlines, as opposed to SETI's 1-3 week deadlines, so you do get more time.

Please go to that computer under your account and post the lines for:

% of time BOINC client is running
While BOINC running, % of time host has an Internet connection
While BOINC running, % of time work is allowed
Task duration correction factor
