We are often told that SETI hasn't found any proof of extraterrestial intelligence. But certainly they have found something interesting even if it isn't ET. The short and long answer is no. This is a very long drawn out process and the data collected so far only represents a small fraction of the sky.
It means we have analyzed a lot of data and there are a lot of possibilities in the database that has been compiled over the last 10 years. The problem is being able to sift though it and compare observation at different times for the same co-ordinates in space.
No one knows. Until the NTPCKR (nitpicker) software is fully developed we wont begin to get any answers. As far as I know it is still in the proof of concept stage. It is meant to search and compare the accumulated data as well as new incoming data in real time to find and catalog signals that may be of interest, be they from ET or a natural (extraterrestrial) source that may be of interest while eliminating known sources. I would suggest using the search box above for the terms NTPCKR and nitpicker to get an idea of where we are at. ____________ Questions? Answers are in the "Unofficial" BOINC Wiki. In other words these could actually be ET comunications but we first need to be very sure before we announce. | |
