.
Hi everyone! I read the news that BOINC and SETI finally launched the CUDA version, but I tried it out and I feel it still need a lot of polish [I'm not into manually check if WUs are VLAR or not].

So I just wanna use the standard client, without CUDA but I haven't figured out how to disable it. Also, I'll wish to run optimized builds. Are there special instruccions to make them run into the CUDA BOINC manager?

And finally... I hate BOINC. I'm an old user back from the time the SETI client was the simple screensaver. Ever since they moved into BOINC I had crash problems, freezes, no graphics... I don't know.

So, maybe someone could point me out how to run S@H with the graphics on? For sure there must be an optimized build for AMD SSE3 that has the screensaver code... or maybe SSE2? SSE? MMX?

Thks in advance.

There is now a project preference that you can set to disallow using the GPU on your system(s). See here.

See Number Crunching's "New Optimized Apps Links -- READ ONLY THREAD".

I don't see how BOINC could be to blame. If the software had such drastic bugs, chances are it would be crashing on a lot of other machines. Perhaps there's something incompatible with your configuration that is preventing BOINC from working right. Or if you're receiving blue screens in Windows, then 99% of the time its due to failing hardware or an overheating CPU.

You'll have to check out Crunch3r's BOINC page, Windows 32bit optimized apps (since I noticed you are running Windows XP SP3 32bit), and you'll want to check the v2.4V "old apps" that have "+GFX" in the title that indicate they have the screen saver code built in. Note that these are slower than the AK V8 apps by a good margin, but they're still faster than stock and they include the screen saver.

(edit... back to bed, more comprehensive answer by Ozzfan. No more typing in the dark for me)

Oh, sure! =_= forgot that most of settings are web based. Thks!

No, I mean.... "I hate progress" so to speak. I've been trying BOINC from time to time, and in this times it has frozen the pc, it didn't crunched the WU, I don't know, a serial of problems in different pc and I was too lazy to ask why. But never mind this.

Excellent! this' what I've been looking for! Many thks man! I just hope ppl will keep putting the Screensaver code in there, even in the CUDA one, for romantic ppl like me ;]

Thks a lot both of you!

The option to not use CUDA is a new one. I think it was only added to the Seti preferences today.

Now I see numbers... 13 hrs to crunch a WU... feels like old times. When CUDA was enabled, some WU just needed 30 - 1:30 mins. That fast is CUDA? Darn, wish the bugs get solved quickly!
