Okay, well, it's not like we didn't see difficulties coming with the release of a client that could potentially improve our processing by 10x. But it hasn't been all that bad, either. Due to various reasons, mostly excessive i/o, the assimilator queue swelled, which caused the workunit storage to reach maximum capacity, which in turn constrained the splitters. This is still the case, more or less - though I am working to increase the workunit storage which will help break one of our dams. I already employed some of the Overland Storage for raw data images, which will eventually break another dam or two. There's still our network bandwidth limits, though... We're just crossing bridges as we get there.

In any case, I did add a new photo album of our server closet for the nerds in our audience.

Schedules will be erratic for the holidays, as you can imagine.

Beautiful stuff and thanks for taking the time to post the results. Hopefully you didn't suffer any more lost blood on the sharp edges of the racks!

Good luck for the dam busting and enjoy a good holiday.

Your screaming millions will still be here for you when you're back!

I may yet try this CUDA thingie sonce Linux is recognised...

Merry Christmas,

Cheers,
Martin

I'm really noticing I'm running out of work for my BOINC a lot more often. When will more of the (or any of the) data from the Allen Telescope Array be piped into SETI@Home?

From the new photo album (last pic):

And here are more servers we no longer use. Those Suns at the bottom of each pile were the driving force behind SETI classic (the user database server, the science database server, and the upload/download server). We don't have the heart to just toss this into the salvage bins. Anybody wanna buy any of this stuff before we donate it to the Smithsonian?

I think there are a lot of people out there making some good donations for that stuff!

Last time that question came up, I can recall being told that the stuff can't be sold because of campus / donation / whatever regulations...

Anyway, where can I place my bid?

Well... Berkeley put the call out a while ago for help in setting up a charity for themselves. Perhaps that now sorts out the 'regulations'?

Good question!

Happy crunchin',

I would also be interested in placing a bid on one of those monster Sun servers. I don't have a huge budget, but it can be marked as a significant donation..

Just use the wayback machine to browse the old Server Status Pages.

Kind of fond of those ProLiants myself. The larger boxes seem to have retained a bit of their Compaq personality.
